Just got back from seeing this with my girlfriend. We both enjoyed it a whole lot.

We liked the Swedish Version and liked this one as well. Definitely will be getting this when it drops on Blu-Ray.

I haven't seen it yet, and I haven't seen the Sweedish version.

With that said from what I have read they knew exactly how to end it. The way it was written in the book. ( the way it was originally written.)

Anyone who has read the book agree?

I always have to wonder why movies with a female protagonist are always written so terribly.

Not having seen this film...I can't see what you're saying but.

Alien didn't have a shitty female character. Jackie Brown didn't either. Among others.

I meant the female protagonist is written terribly, not the movie. Although it's both in this case.

I suppose the Alien series is the exception to the rule. And Jackie Brown was incredibly flat. I liked the movie, but like all of QT's movies, the characters are dull.

Great great film. This has gotta win best score at the Oscars this year. Best score of the year easily.
Oh and the credits kicked enormous amounts of ass. Why cant more films have kick-ass credit sequences like that?
A-
This post pretty much nails it. ^^^^^

Fincher made a great film, but Rooney Mara isn't nearly as good as Noomi Rapace.

Mara's performance felt a little forced to me as well. Rapace was a natural in the role.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

Just got back from seeing it tonight. This isn't the type of movie I normally would watch, but the critical buzz and David Fincher got me to devote the 160+ minutes to drive to the theatre and see it.

I thought it was really good. The soundtrack was excellent and fit the tone of the movie. Loved the opening credits and I thought Rooney Mara was solid as Lisbeth. I also enjoyed Craig as Mikel.

Never saw the original Swedish trilogy, but I was surprised they didn't adapt this version to make it take place in America or England as opposed to making it an English speaking movie taking place in Sweden. I had no issues with keeping all the characters Swedish, but the thought crossed my mind as I was watching it. I guess they wanted to stay true to the book.

A question I have is:

Spoiler:
What year is this supposed to take place in?

The issue I had was the age of Harriet (Joely Richardson's character) All the documents said she was born in 1950. If the movie takes place in 2011, Joely was totally miscast playing someone at age 61 considering she's in her mid- 40's.

Anyways, there was some really good tension and some really uncomfortable rape and torture scenes. Overall, it wasn't the most pleasant movie I've seen, but a solid well-acted and directed drama.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

Really liked this version. It was very slick and the opening was killer. Can't convey enough how much I loved the opening credits. Overall I liked the Swedish one more. There was more detail with the family and murders and the end with the money just made more sense and it was more uncomfortably brutal. Rooney did a great job but Noomi was even better for me. Craig I def. liked better.

I felt Let Me In was a worthy remake, if not very necessary, and this one is way better than that. It's just a good movie and I can't wait for part two.

40 minutes of the runtime are devoted to all the characters taking English lessons. A really bold departure from the book and a daring artistic choice by Fincher.

This is probably the dumbest thing you've ever posted Snake. The characters are only speaking English for our convenience. In their world they are speaking Swedish.

Did you see Valkyrie? Do you remember the opening scene where Cruise is speaking German and it slowly starts to turn into English so we can understand? Exact same concept.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

It's actually not a dumb question. I was wondering if they did it like in Valkyrie. It's an honest question towards an interesting and neat thing they do to show that they're speaking Swedish but we're hearing the translation. I'm not sure how that's a dumb question. Fincher made mention of something along those lines and it stuck w/ me as to whether he did do that or not. Someone takes shit too serious.

They all speak English in Scandinavian countries anyway. Most of them speak it better than most Americans.

It isn't acknowledged. Even weirder is that Craig speaks with his normal accent but has a Scandinavian name. Everyone else speaks with an appropriate accent except him.

Ha! Nice try. Your question didn't anger me, it made me laugh for its stupidity.

You realize this applies to almost every movie set in a foreign country whose citizens don't speak English, right?

A huge generalization. As someone who lived in Europe for 6 years (and grew up speaking German and Dutch) and traveled throughout the area I can vouch that English is taught throughout a child's school life and most people in my generation (20's) can speak conversational English, but to claim that everyone can is extreme exaggeration.

If the Nazis can take the time to learn English in WW2 movies, then so can brutal anal raping Swedes.

Yes....but when the director mentions soemthing about it. It bears the need to question how it was done.
