The next two will never get made.

I read the books, watched the Swedish versions and the US remake of DT... I really wanted to like this trilogy, but it just isn't that compelling after the dungeon scene in DT.

Supposedly, according to Amy Pascal, Fincher was given 80 pages for the next installment and liked it. However, with Gone Girl becoming his next project, who knows when and if Played with Fire will get made. I thought Zaillian was finished with his polish long ago, but I guess not.

Although it's been almost three year since David Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO hit theaters, Sony and Fincher are apparently still interested in doing a sequel. In an interview with the Swedish site Afton Bladet, the director was asked about the status of the sequel, and while he does say there is a script, he also says it is quite different compared to The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second book from Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy.

I think because it [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script so it will result in something. The script that we now have a huge potential, I can reveal as much as it is extremely different from the book.

I hope Fincher bails on this.

Not if Sony caves in to his demands on control.
