Not sure that that means they won't be following the books so much as they will just make her story the main focus. I was hoping for better adaptations of the second and third book as I felt the Swedish ones were a bit lacking, but I guess I'll just take what I can get.

Yeah, with some changes the 2nd and 3rd could be much better movies.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

fantastic news that the sequels are gonna change things up. The 2nd and 3rd books had lots of boring parts in em. They need to take out ALL of the shit with the cop investigating Sallander and condense the plot and make it more kick-ass.
I loved Fincher's film but i really hope he goes to direct something different and they can get Mark Romanek ir something to film 2 and 3 back-to-back. I just wanna see Fincher to more and more different things now like that 20000 leagues adaptation

I'll say it -- the books weren't that good. I read them all back to back to back and had a ton of issues with them. I wanted to like them based on all the critical acclaim but there was no real mystery, there was only a girl being mistreated by a broken system. She barely had to tap into her special gifts of photographic memory and hacking to move the story along. Mikael's relationship with her was bizarre and forced -- sure she helped him but she comes across like such a stand-offish asshole that it's hard to like her.

I haven't read the books, yet. But almost everyone I know personally who has read them, loved them. I'll get around to reading them eventually.

Back to the movie, here is this week's box-office predictions. Man, this movie has legs! It now looks like the film will end up with 110-115K at the box-office. Well done Mr. Fincher!

The sequel to "Mrs. Doubfire" immediately comes to mind. And is that damn third "Ghostbusters" ever going to get off the ground!?

They can't get Murray to stop throwing the scripts in the trashcan.

I would say 100 million domestic is pretty solid considering it's a dense crime story about a 40 year old event, an unattractive female lead, an older supporting cast, a drawn out and downer ending and, wait for it, multiple scenes of graphic rape

...I dunno about unattractive. There's a certain level of attractiveness from Salander.

Well, agreed when you post those types of pictures.

Let's call it traditionally unattractive.

It was kinda nice in some scenes you could still see Mara under all that make up and everything.

I loved her in Dragon Tattoo, but for me she was the worst part of that ANOES remake. Knowing what we know now, I think her disdain for the project shows in the final product and -- while I had a number of issues with the film -- is one of the core reasons it didn't succeed.

It's the main (only, really) reason I was skeptical about her casting in GwtDT, but she's won me over in this role.

Saw this last night an loved it! I could have done without the graphic rape. But, it is what it is. I really hope they make another one. That is if they get the cast back.

Not sure why but I thought fincher was going to water it down a bit and I'm glad to see that his take was actually a bit more disturbing (but in a good way if that makes any sense). I would easily give this flick 5 stars and I don't care what anyone says - this is Fincher at the peak of his game - fantastic directing.

Saw this today as a rental and immediately went to Amazon to purchase it as soon as the credits started to roll. Absolutely loved this movie even though I missed quite a bit of the first half hour as I was passively watching it while messing around online. I wasn't expecting to get that into the movie. Felt so bad for Lisbeth at the end, just wanted her to be happy. I'll be watching it again next weekend when my copy arrives.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

thought this was just fantastic. thought it was a slow burn and really thought it was a complete remake with settings and all and was a little taken aback when it was so similar to the original movie (at first), but then the characters just grabbed me back and i loved it all. loved it all i tell ya. done so well and Mara knocked it out of the park.

really did translate to its own identity and while i loved the original, i think i liked this more and it is still staying with me the next day.

grueling at some points, but riveting throughout and i found my hands clenched without even realizing at certain points. great adaptaption by Fincher.

can't wait for more...

I bought the books but had enough friends with similar taste as me telling not to bother reading them so I'm not planning on reading them now.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

I'd seen the original film once before, but I didn't remember a whole lot about it. I wasn't paying close attention at the time.

Anyway, I got my BD of Fincher's and watched it last week. It took me a bit to settle into the groove of the film, but once things got rolling I was hooked. I liked that the film was told in a 5-act structure versus 3, as I felt it really gave the mystery time to mature, making the eventual conclusion that much more satisfying.

I might not have thought a whole lot of Mara before seeing this, but damn if I don't love her now. Her performance was amazing; a total transformation. Craig was very good, but I think I'm so set on seeing him as a tough guy Bond that his character's somewhat meek personality seemed off to me. That's not a dig at his performance, just that perhaps someone more in line with the character mighyt have been a better choice.

Reznor's score was excellent, as expected. I hope he continues to work in film.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

Watched this again last night. Damn if it just doesn't get better with repeated viewings. The shot compositions are just breathtaking. The direction, editing, cinematography, performances and sound design are pure perfection.
I hope we're not starting to take Fincher for granted. His films are just so impeccably crafted, they are truly a gift for any cinephile.
