Ha ha,

yeah, well it is rated 91% at Rotten Tomatoes too, so maybe it grew on people after it hit video or something!

Far cry from its theatrical days! It bombed and lost money theatrically. Compare to its vampire competition that year The Lost Boys...

Near Dark

Domestic Total Gross: $3,369,307
Distributor: DEG Release Date: October 2, 1987
Genre: Unknown Runtime: 1 hrs. 35 min.
MPAA Rating: R Production Budget: $5 million

The Lost Boys

Domestic Total Gross: $32,222,567
Distributor: Warner Bros. Release Date: July 31, 1987
Genre: Horror Thriller Runtime: 1 hrs. 37 min.
MPAA Rating: R Production Budget: N/A

Of course the inflated totals (ticket sales worldwide) would be much higher for The Lost Boys now. And that total above doesn't account for worldwide, just domestic.

I am confused too. I have never understood its critical acclaim and cult status.

Without putting too much stock into anything associated with IMDb, I'll just say that it's nice to see some good films getting love that normally don't. Near Dark, Christine, Slither... lots of good stuff that tends to be overlooked.
