Soren, a young barn owl, is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie's, ostensibly an orphanage, where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He and his new friends escape to the island of Ga'Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie's.

My first impression was that Snyder was making 300 with owls. However, this actually looks interesting. Nice to see an animated movie (that's not foreign or PIXAR) that looks like it's trying to be a real one as opposed to an attempt to cash in on children ticket sales.

Looks pretty cool, though I could do without the shitty rock anthem. I also like that they aren't going for a cute-sified, cartoony look, though owls already naturally have the big, expressive eyes you would normally see in a cartoon, so that helps.

Zach Snyder is going to make owls cool again. The greatest cinematic owls are the ones from clash of the titans, blade runner, and night watch.

I also pass. It looks beautifully rendered but it also looks incredibly dull. I barely made it through the whole trailer.

Yeah, obviously "kids movies" can't possibly be good.
Looks cool. This has a Happy Feet vibe to it--no surprise since it's the same studio. I wanted to like Happy Feet and have tried to watch it numerous times, but just can't get into it. I fall asleep every time. I'll check this out though.

Was gonna say the same. I like Snyder, like animation...but this is a no go for me. Hated Happy Feet... this'll probably be better but I'm just not digging the characters.

Let us track Zack Snyder's filmography, shall we?
01.) Dawn Of The Dead - A remake of George A. Romero's classic zombie film. "Rated R for pervasive strong horror violence and gore, language and sexuality."
02.) 300 - An adaptation of the graphic novel by Frank Miller. "Rated R for graphic battle sequences throughout, some sexuality and nudity."
03.) Watchmen - An adaptation of the classic graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. "Rated R for strong graphic violence, sexuality, nudity and language."
04.) Legend Of The Guardians - An animated adaptation of a series of fantasy books for kids called...Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky. No rating as of yet, but seeing as it is a children's movie with some fighting it will probably be rated PG.
What a completely unexpected turn for Zack Snyder. It doesn't look all bad, it is just the last thing I would have expected Snyder to direct. Might be worth checking out when it comes to DVD, but definitely not a theatrical must-see. I really wish he would have skipped this though and found some way to release Sucker Punch this year instead.
