I just bought the first book in the series today. There are 15 books total. At first glance it seems VERY kiddie. That isn't necessarily a negative but I was hoping for something closer to Harry Potter. The first couple Potter books are geared towards younger kids too, but were still somewhat adult. We'll see.

I'm really looking forward to this one after seeing the trailer recently, I believe before TS3. The quality of the animation especially blew me away.

I seen it with my wife and kids and the theater was empty except for us but i live in a small town and football was tonight. We all enjoyed it and my wife was not looking forward to it at all, she said it looked like Lord of the Rings with Owls but she still enjoyed it too

The idea isn't bad, and the animation is fantastic, but the movie didn't deliver the goods. Kids might enjoy it more, but I found the humor lame, the action so-so, and the whole thing felt like it didn't how to savor the important moments. And don't get me started on that awful montage in the middle set to some shitty pop song. Completely out of place.
The best part was the new Looney Tunes short in front of it, and even that wasn't amazing.

Just got back from an afternoon showing. In short, loved it.
The animation is simply stunning. The owls are TREMENDOUSLY detailed and full of little quirks and tics. It's easily on par with the best animated films as far as that goes.
Plot-wise it was pretty straightforward without many surprises, but there was a real sense of danger, the action was intense and some of the imagery is downright scary. We probably shouldn't have taken the 4-year-old with us, but my 6-year-old loved it.
It was an interesting setting (not many owl movies out there) and I just couldn't get enough of the animation. It should be a reference-quality Blu-ray. The scenes in the rain are especially epic, as is the final battle.
Snyder did a great job with this one.

Yes, that is it. Apparently this guy is autistic, which is fair, because his music makes me want to cut off contact from all of society as well.

I haven't seen the movie, but I did read the first book. I think there are 15 of them. I liked the book ok, but not enough to continue on with the series. From reading the book, I'm not surprised in the least that a song like that would be included in a movie version. Although the book has some slight adult themes, it's definitely geared towards pre teens or possibly very early teens. Frankly I was surprised when I saw the first trailer and many parts of it looked like Lord of the Rings but with owls especially since I knew how "kiddie" the book was.
I guess my point is, if the movie is similar in tone to the book then I'm surprised Justin Bieber isn't on the soundtrack.

I dunno, I spent the whole time thinking "hmm...maybe this wasn't such a great one to take my young kids to." I enjoyed it.
And the Owl City song is a little distracting, but it's a short sequence and I barely noticed it besides thinking "it's weird there are lyrics for this song...oh well."

The animation is indeed fantastic, but I actually fell asleep about halfway through. Gotta hand it to Snyder on the battle scenes though- I was surprised to see the level of violence in a kid's film, but then again, it always annoys me when X-Men/TMNT characters with always knock out the bad guys with the blunt end of their blade weapons!
I didn't understand what the whole deal was with the metal fleck 'weapon' and how it affected the owls' gizzards, nor do I know what a 'gizzard' even is...

I thought this movie was fantastic. It was a bit graphic for young kids to see and it had that 300 "slowdown" vibe to it during certain moments. The animation was top notch and so far it's the best looking 3D I've seen to date -- better than Avatar IMO. I would not see this if it weren't for the kids, but I'm glad I did.
