The 2010 Blockbusters: which ones will sizzle or fizzle?
2010 is going to be awesome for those huge Hollywood blockbusters. I have a feeling that the ratio of good-to-bad blockbusters are gonna be more in favor of the ones that are expected to be good and expected to be bad. I think this year will be more fun than last year's disappointments (G.I. Joe, Transformers 2, Wolverine, New Moon, Dragonball Z, etc.). I'm not talking about financially making money or not. I'm just talking more about peoples expectations - the films that people hope to like and the ones that people expect not to like.
Here are my predictions:
SIZZLE (movies that will just be fun and extremely re-watchable):
Iron Man 2
Sex and the City 2 (for women only)
Toy Story 3
Predators
Little Fockers
Harry Potter
Tron Legacy
Alice in Wonderland
Nightmare on Elm Street
Robin Hood
Kick Ass
The A-Team
The Losers
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Prince of Persia
Clash of the Titans
Centurion
The Green Hornet
Date Night
Grown Ups
Inception
Salt
Brooklyn's Finest
Green Zone
Repo Men
Death at a Funeral
Get Him to the Greek
Despicable Me
Dinner for Shmucks
Scott Pilgrim versus the World (it's an Edgar Wright film!)
Your Highness (a new David Gordon Green film starring Franco, McBride, Portman, and Deschanel!)
Megamind
Tangled (Disney's Rapunzal)
FIZZLE (movies which may have good trailers, but end up probably sucking). There is no reason at all for these films to be surprisingly good:
Wall Street 2
Shrek 4
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (only fans will appreciate this)
Narnia 3
The Karate Kid (I hope it's gonna be better than it looks)
The Last Airbender (this year's Dragonball Z)
Season of the Witch
The Expendables (it's gonna suck)
Jonah Hex (I'm hoping I'm wrong with this one)
The Bounty Hunter
I love you Philip Morris
How To Train Your Dragon
The Back-Up Plan
MacGruber
Takers
Marmaduke (can't they just do Thundcats instead?)
Killers
Knight and Day
Morning Glory (the next Harrison Ford flick)
Pirhanna 3D (worst film of the year)
The Smurfs (can't they just do Thundcats instead?)
Yogi Bear (can't they just do Thundercats instead?)
Eagle of the Ninth

Re: The 2010 Blockbusters: which ones will sizzle or fizzle?
oh god, I forgot my favorite guy - Channing Tatum. It's sort of sad that a good director, Kevin MacDonald, is trying to make audiences believe in Tatum. This is going to suck ass! There is no way that the presence of Mark Strong, Donald Sutherland, and Jamie Bell will distract audiences from the awfulness of Channing Tatum.
The same goes for Taylor Lautner. Tatum and Lautner should both be starring in some epic trilogy about the gay porn industry. "Two straight friends join the gay porn industry. One stays straight, while the other turns gay. Which one? The twist is that the straight one was always gay and the one that turns gay is just bi."

Find myself agreeing with you. Really looking forward to Inception, Iron Man 2 & Robin Hood the most. I'm also hoping that both Wall Street 2 and that Facebook movie crash and burn...Really, Shia Labooof matching wits with Gordon Gecko?...I also really can't believe Fincher is making a movie with Justin Timberlake...how the fuck did that happen?

I don't trust Hollywood to have that many entertaining movies in 1 year. I would probably put these on the fizzle list. I think these have a greater chance of disappointing or failing at the box office.
Nightmare on Elm Street
Kick Ass
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Prince of Persia
Brooklyn's Finest
Green Zone
Repo Men
Get Him to the Greek

It's going to be worse than Prince Caspian. Lower your expectations so that you like it. Remember, this third one is directed by Michael Apted, director of forgetable films such as Amazing Grace, Enough, Enigma, World is Not Enough, Extreme Measures, Nell, Blink, Thunderheart. He hasn't directed a good film since the late 80s (Gorillas in the Mist, Coal Miner's Daughter)

I didn't see it listed, but "The Other Guys" comes out August 6. Directed by Adam McKay. It has Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in a cop comedy. I think that will do pretty well.

The only ones I'm looking forward to are SALT and THE EXPENDABLES.
None of my favorite directors have movies coming out this year.
And where are the TRANSPORTER and CRANK sequels?
Too bad they stopped releasing the Pokemon movies to theaters (about 7 years ago). They barely release them on DVD now.

Damn, what a shitload of awful movies this year. Most of them will flop.

I'm banking on Prince of Persia to be a total bomb.
No way Piranha 3-D will be the worst film of the year - Channing Tatum has at least 2 movies coming out.

for some reason, i'm thinking Prince of Persia and The Green Hornet to be this years bombs. I also think that Clash of the Titans will be huge, HUGE.
Mark Wahlberg in a cop comedy? count me in!

How the hell can you know what movies are going to be re-watchable before you see them? I bet you could transpose half the movies on those two lists and be just as accurate.
I am stoked for the new Tron, though.

There's no way The Expendables will be bad.
It's going to be FUCKING AWESOME.
Also, I think you're confusing the word 'Blockbuster' with 'Film'...because not all of those would be considered 'blockbusters'.

I'm not too up to date with what's coming up. But from the Movie Forum's "Theatrical Release" thread, here is what I got for the must sees...
All of these look good. And I can see them all being successful.
Alice In Wonderland
Clash Of The Titans
The Losers
Kick-Ass
Machete
MacGruber (no idea how it'll be, need to see ... my enjoyment of SNL movies is spotty ... he better blow up at the end)
Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps (no idea how it'll be, need to see)
A Nightmare On Elm Street (no idea how it'll be, need to see)
Iron Man 2 (can't believe that I still haven't watched the first!)
Robin Hood
Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time
The A-Team (I want to some day be a beer-buddy man-friend of Joe Carnahan)
Jonah Hex (this may have piqued my interest more than anything else on this list)
Knight & Day
The Last Airbender
Predators
Inception
The Expendables
(wow, I skipped the September releases, tho' I don't really recognize many of these going into the end of the year)
The Social Network
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Red Dawn (yea?)
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader
Tron Legacy (meh, I really don't know)
The Green Lantern
