I think they would be happy if part 2 does half of what Avatar did.

Can you imagine if the sequels do so well that Cameron ends up having the top 4 box office films of all time? He could be the Beatles of film.

The Lord of the Rings wasn't a back-to-back sequel - it was a well-planned trilogy from the start.

Of all the big hits that spawned sequels, I can't think of one I'm less excited about than AVATAR 2. I enjoyed the first movie, but to date have still only seen it twice. I'll see the sequel, but it's not high on my "can't wait" list.

I don't see the point in bringing back Weaver and Lang; curious how that will be done.

I assumed Weaver would be back as part of the Gaia-like spiritual-biological link stuff. Maybe Lang will be part of the malevolent side to kick some hippy ass.

I'm betting Lang's character teams up with them at some point.

It has no rewatchablility. Especially at home, which is where I watched it, without the 3D gimmick. Saw it once and it didn't stick with me and I have never had the desire to see it again.

I actually really like the special features on the BD set over the movie itself.

I think the ship is going to have sailed by the time this comes out...

That is an 8 year gap. JC is a perfectionist. It gives everyone some time to stew on the stories and get those moments just right. And the technical stuff.

Just like Rodriguez and Sin City 2! We got near perfection there.

But really, for a Cameron film, this is about right. I can't believe it's been near 6 years since Avatar came out - ushering a new era in 3D!

Honestly that will work out fine, I've found a majority of adults found Avatar decent but weren't enthralled with it. A lot of 12/13 year olds fucking loved it to no end though. Avatar 2 will come out when they're still in range to care about things like this. Cameron is awesome at selling to that 13 year old crowd, as proven with Avatar and Titanic

I may as well get the 3D theatrical cut BD already, if that's the case. Because I'm sure that a 3D re-release of the collector's edition will only be released once this sequel is released.

As much as I want to dismiss this and not care, I have a feeling this might be a big hit despite the negativity.

I liked the first one. Nothing original but it was fun and I felt it breezed by.

Yup.

It is a sure thing if there ever was one. Even at about a quarter of the WW BO. That would still roughly be $700 million. No way in hell it won't do OK.

I thought the first one was mildly entertaining as well. Wasn't amazing or anything, and the box office take seemed to really be fueled by the 3D hype which seems to have passed by now. Still, there's a lot of folks including myself who are on the "who still cares?" boat and yet... it's Cameron.

re: Avatar 2 (2018, Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

Much like Ghostbusters III, this is one of those projects I'd be happy about if it never got made.

Sadly, it looks like James Cameron is going to waste much of his prime filmmaking career on these silly movies, when he could be tackling something fresh or, heck, doing a sequel to one of his films people actually WANT to see him make (True Lies, Terminator or Aliens).

Do you think Cameron thinks he's going to be the next George Lucas with these movies? Marketing his own little universe of products? That's the only reason I can think of why he's so obsessed with Avatar and its sequels.

I don't understand either why he continues with Avatar. It was boring.

I don't think anyone really gives a shit for a sequel to True Lies anymore, if ever.

Terminator and Aliens sure...but not True Lies .

That's the only thing to want from TL now. It's the only thing that matters now with that film.
