So this will have mermaids or gungans?

"...you don't want Avatar 2 to feel like a setup for 3."
I think that is good news.

Hopefully the underwater motion capture shooting won't be as grueling on the actors as it was on The Abyss.

re: Avatar 2: Delgo (2016, Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

Cameron is trying to figure out how he can combine Titanic and Avatar.

I'm hoping for 'Titar' a sexy romp through 'The Abyss' of Pandora where 'Jack' is looking for a 'Terminator' but only finds 'True Lies' and blue 'Aliens' with unsinkable breasts. Yes it sounds like a 'Titanic' undertaking but it is 'Jimmy Cameron'.

Oh, "Piranha 2 the Spawning'.

Interesting how just about any time Cameron makes a movie he has to develop new technology to get it done. Can't say he isn't a visionary.

It is interesting especially since with his last film he had to develop the new technology but couldn't develop a script that hadn't already been done. He is quite odd with what he thinks is important.

I'll bet anyone on here $100 that Avatar 2 will be the highest grossing movie of all time and that people will continue to hate on it after the fact.

Any takers?

Well if it's as "good" as Avatar is, of course they'll hate it after the fact.

I'll take some of that action. Avatar 2 will do big business, no doubt, but I think enough people were disappointed with the first that it won't reach highest grossing movie of all time status.

Of course, considering I'm one who found Avatar's story to be completely stale and disappointing yet will no doubt see the second in the theater (and pay the extra $3 to see it in 3D), I may end up eating my words.

I think you failed at seeing my point. I'll rephrase it.

Avatar 2 will be the highest grossing movie of all time...that everyone hated.

Cameron is already two for two. Everyone hated Titanic and Avatar, so why not make it a trifecta?

3D backlash will prevent Avatar 2 from coming close to the first one.

I'm putting a $500m cap (domestic) on what it'll make, and that's being generous.

This movie will succeed massively. Even if there's a 3D backlash, people will see James Cameron's 3D. And especially underwater 3D (Finding Nemo, get ready to make some big bucks!).

It'll make $500m at least. Dunno if it'll top Avatar though.

Plus now that the world is established and we're on board with the characters, they can delve into other aspects, similar to Empire.

re: Avatar 2: Delgo (2016, Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

From Dark Horizons:

James Cameron says that he's looking "very seriously at the possibility of a co-production" with Chinese production companies for the upcoming "Avatar" sequels.

The "Titanic" filmmaker, who has been visiting Beijing over the past few days, tells Reuters that "The question is, what's required of us? In terms of configuring the market for the Chinese marketplace, and what economic benefit do we get in return."

He then goes on to say "If it works - and I want to definitely stress if - it seems to me it could be very advantageous to the Chinese film community, because for us to do a film like Avatar which is an entirely studio shoot, we wouldn't be here for the scenery ... We'd be bringing in infrastructure to do virtual production, to do 3-D photography and so on, which I would think would be a positive technology exchange into this film-making community."

*********************************************************

That sure is an eloquent way of saying "I can do this shit cheaper in China". Why not shoot it in an American studio and pay American workers?

Here's a different interview he did with The Hollywood Reporter:

James Cameron Considers Teaming With China for 'Avatar' Sequels (Q&A)

I found this blurb interesting:
Cameron: It’s still very exploratory. We’re doing some meetings. We’re just looking to see if it might make sense – in terms of what would be required of us and what we would get in return. Because again, this is a major market. I think by the time Avatar 2 and 3 come out, China could easily be the same size market as the United States, which is crazy

I dunno about everyone. I know there are those like me that hate Titanic but we are definitely in the minority.

As for Avatar, the backlash towards it started almost immediately after it hit theaters. Though nothing special, I thought it was a fun time waster. That said, there was a lot of venom spewed at the film for it's generic plot and barely developed characters. But that's to be expected when such a high profile release is really nothing but a mega budget equivalent of a B-movie.

And given there's also been a groing trend of hatred spewed at 3D, it's a safe bet that Avatar 2 will likely not be the huge hit Avatar was.

I hope that the marines get better commanders this time.

Send some depth charges from orbit, blow the hell out of everything this time before going down.
