Well, as we know with James Cameron, the story is far from the only factor in why he gets something made, or is his reason for developing a project.

From an article published May, 2012:
“Last year I basically completely disbanded my production company’s development arm. So I’m not interested in developing anything. I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar, Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4.”

I worship James Cameron. If he had a cult, I'd totally be there working for free and sleeping on a cot. All hail.
Good to see they finally set some goal dates. I knew he had hired a handful of writers a couple years ago. The updates have just been 'it's coming sometime'.

I'd love to see an Avatar sequel....heck...even 4 of them.
I'd just like to actually see one instead of just announcments of more sequels.
Get with it Cameron....get on the ball, move forward instead of planning what sequel will hit the theaters in 2025.
There is no doubt in my mind that the dates will be extended.

It sounds to me that Cameron just enjoys making these movies. He's earned the right to do whatever the fuck he wants, so good for him for going all in on a project he seems to really love.
The guy has the magic touch. His movies may not be fantastic but he asses in the seats (especially in foreign countries). My initial take is to doubt the Avatar sequels like everyone else but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were all blowout worldwide hits.

Yeah, kind of sad that we're not going to see any original content from him again outside of the Dances with Smurfs series.

Yes, yes, yes. Whatever. Just remaster T2, The Abyss, & True Lies before I die. And give me T1 with the mono. After that, make as many blue Eco movies as you like.

Funny how he didn't mention any of Snyder's films after 300 though.

I'd rather see DC-style 2-D animated straight-to-DVD AVATAR sequels rather than full-blown films.

That wasn't the point of the comment, though. He specifically referenced 300 as a catalyst of the film style. Didn't need to say shit about anything that came afterward.
