Help me identify this juvenile delinquency film from the late 70s or early 80s...
 

I remember seeing a portion of this on HBO years ago, but the scenes I recall are as follows:
1) kids throwing another kid into a lake (in a residential setting) in a fit of bad behavior
2) parents convening at a PTA meeting of sorts to decide what to do about these kids

I recall the children being in their teens

it's OVER THE EDGE without a doubt. one of my all time favorite films.

Yep,the only movie I have seen that was anything like it was when I was in high school. Great movie.

i had this problem with the same film. Saw it when I was younger, couldn't figure out was it was for years (this was before the internet).

As soon as I saw the title of this thread, I knew what film it was (a first!). Great movie, one of a kind.

I remember seeing this on HBO when I was a kid and after the chaos that goes on, seeing the final shot on the bus with "Ooh Ooh Child" playing over it really stuck with me.

Came across this the other day:

"Over the Edge suffered from timing. Jonathan Kaplan's 1979 film finished production around the time teenage gangs were fighting in theaters over The Warriors; the studio, worried that this new teen movie would cause more violence, shelved it. But like White Dog, another studio film deemed too dangerous to be seen, its reputation grew. A 1981 HBO screening led to bookings at New York's Public Theater, which in turn led to showings in small art houses across the city. Edge recently came out on DVD and last night it opened Film Comment Selects. Film Comment editor Gavin Smith talked before the screening about how delighted he was "to give this film the premiere it never got but deserved," and the eager sold-out Walter Reade crowd clapped throughout. I couldn't help but think of John Frankenheimer talking about his 1966 flop Seconds: "It went from failure to classic without ever being a hit."

wow...matt dillon was in it. The trailer reminds me of some twilight zone epsiodes (the newer one with Forrest Whitaker...yeah, I know)
