The Godfather
Years ago I seen a GF one and two combined chronologically. Where can I find it?
|
Re: Godfather
I appreciate your stereotypical "Italian" speech in your post.
I a like the Godfathers a too, eh. Gratzi. I believe what you're referring to is "The Godfather Saga" and to my knowledge it isn't available on DVD (at least in an official release). |
Re: Godfather
I a learn Eeenglish... from a book-a!!!!
Seriously, you're referring to "The Godfather Saga", which was a six-hour version of Godfather I and II re-edited to be presented in chronological order on network television. Interesting experiment, but flawed. They did the same incorporating Part III in "The Godfather Trilogy: 1901–1980". I think the last release of these were on laserdisc and VHS (I have a copy SOMEWHERE, but it hasn't seen the light of day in 15 years or so). Your best LEGAL bet is to try and track it down on eBay or something. |
Re: Godfather
Or just record it the next time they play it on TV, which I think is still pretty frequently.

Re: Godfather
They were on AMC yesterday
|
Re: Godfather
I'm surprised this has never made it to DVD.

Re: Godfather
^ well, i am sure the cuts we see on current DVD/Blu are Coppola's preferred versions. we know he restored them and may not approve of this basterdized vision. and when i say basterdized, i don't necessarily mean in a bad way, i personally have not seen this version, but may not be to Coppola's liking.
who created these anyway that we see on USA or AMC or one of those cable channels that oft repeat this version? |
Re: Godfather
As often as AMC airs "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II", I haven't noticed them actually airing the saga in chronological order.
|
Re: Godfather
Did the Saga edit out the violence, or was that intact?
|
Re: Godfather
So is this the version I saw that had the extended scenes in it?
Like of Deniro hunting down everyone who was at the Don's place when his mom was killed? With the scenes of him in the rowboat out on the water and the like? |

Re: Godfather
There are 2 versions one called THE COMPLETE NOVEL and THE SAGA.
Both came out on laserdisc and both have different edited new scenes. I'm sure someone has combined both with all the scenes for their own personal use. |

Re: Godfather
HBO is airing the Godfather Epic this Sun Jan 17 at 5pm and it runs for 7 hours + and again on Jan 23
I am not sure if Godfather epic and the saga are the same thing or different? |
Re: Godfather
Godfather Saga is the first two films edited together
The Godfather Epic has Sofia Coppola replacing Marlon Brando and Michael no longer shoots first in the diner scene. |
Re: Godfather
So Copolla went Lucas lol?
|
Re: Godfather
Dear god, I was expecting to open this thread and see news of a remake.

Re: Godfather
I think the saga aired on 4 consecitive nights on NBC in Nov 1977
Not sure how accurate Wiki is but they have some info. The HBO version has to be superior to AMC since there are no ads I suppose? The Godfather 1902–1959: The Complete Epic The Godfather 1902–1959: The Complete Epic is a reduced, 386 minute version of The Godfather Saga (434 minutes) that was released to video in 1981.[5][6] Lucia Bozzola wrote of this version, "With the freedom of home video, The Complete Epic reinstated the violence that had been edited for television; free of commercial breaks, the narrative drive of Part I was mostly restored, but the impact of Part II was still muted by the separation of Vito's rise from Michael's descent."[7] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Go..._Complete_Epic |
Re: Godfather
From HBO.com:
Crime, Drama | 424 minutes | HDR: Adult Content, Brief Nudity, Graphic Language, Graphic Violence Francis Ford Coppola's legendary gangster epic "The Godfather" and its Oscar(R)-winning sequel "The Godfather II" are edited into this single film--told chronologically and with added footage that was cut from the original films. Beginning in 1902, the film reveals the compelling saga of the Corleone family--led by patriarch Vito (Marlon Brando) and later his youngest son Michael (Al Pacino)--from its Sicilian beginnings to its rise as the most powerful crime family in America. Co-starring Robert Duvall, James Caan, Richard Castellano, Diane Keaton, Robert De Niro, Talia Shire, Sterling Hayden, John Marley, Richard Conte and Lee Strasberg. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola; screenplay by Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo, based on the novel by Mario Puzo. |
Isn't there a TV version which re-edits the films into chronological order? This could be that.

Re: The Godfather
I liked the added-in scenes in the DeNiro flashbacks. Though they are on the blu-rays as deleted scenes.
