Re: Favorite Quentin Tarantino Film?

My favorite is Reservoir Dogs, but his best movie is Pulp Fiction. Pulp is a pure masterpiece and what all movies should strive for: The unknown. You watch the movie and you don't know how it will end, you don't know where it is going, as too many movies that come out are too predictable.

Had Michael Madsen been cast in the Brad Pitt role, Inglorious would have been top for me... As it stands, Reservoir Dogs just squeaks ahead of the pack...

That's actually one of the qualities I like most about him as a director. I remember my friends could never sit through classic Kurosawa films, HK crime dramas, or old spaghetti westerns until after they had seen Tarantino films. He really ignites love for old movies, you have to give him that.

Jackie Brown is my favorite movie of his. It's the one with the most complete story and characters.

Re: Favorite Quentin Tarantino Film?

Inglorious Basterds was too "all over the map" for me. A farce, yet serious. That Nazi dude basically kills - MURDERS!! - main characters, yet Brad Pitt can waltz around being a baffoon at the theater, trying to talk in Italian but being...well, a buffoon! It's accepted (sort of), so the funny tone goes quickly to a serious tone. Not cool with me.

And the fact that Hitler was in there, and how history was rearranged! I didn't like that at all. Would have been better with unknown Nazis getting theirs. Not the ones where we know what really happens to them.

Oh well, right? But I like everything else he's done, and I'm sure I'll like his future stuff (God willing)...so I'm satisfied. One flop (in my opinion) is not such a bad track record for a director. Even Speilberg made movies I don't want to see (1941, anybody?)

Re: Favorite Quentin Tarantino Film?

I haven't not liked any of Tarantino's films. But I'm going to say Basterds is his strongest, most consistent from start to finish.

Basterds, Pulp Fiction

Kill Bill Vol. 2, Reservoir Dogs, Death Proof

Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Vol. 1

Re: Favorite Quentin Tarantino Film?

1) Pulp Fiction
2) Kill Bill: Volume Two
3) Kill Bill: Volume One
4) Jackie Brown
5) Inglourious Basterds
6) Death Proof
7) Reservoir Dogs

It was tough placing Reservoir Dogs and Death Proof. Most of the dialogue in Dogs is much more memorable but I just really love Death Proof's genre and there are so damn many fantastic scenes. Plus, c'mon, it's got Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike. I know I'm in the minority there though, as well as preferring the second act of Kill Bill to the first. But it's also hard for me to compare the two. As with Lord of the Rings they're just sort of part of a whole.

Re: Favorite Quentin Tarantino Film?

I'm shocked that so many people prefer Kill Bill Vol.1 over Vol. 2. Vol. 1 was fun, but Vol. 2 is the more intelligent, compelling story.

My vote has to go to Jackie Brown though.

We are talking about favorite QT film not the better QT film. It's justifiable.

Sorry, don't like any Tarantino movies, and IMHO, consider him to be overrated.

When I first saw IB I thought "what the hell?" but after thinking about the ending I loved it. 1. for me at least, it made the finale totally unpredictable. something near impossible considering it's a WWII film. and 2. It's actually pretty ingenious that Tarantino turned his own film into a WWII propaganda film.

He's not overrated. Even if you don't like his movies as a whole you have to admit there are scenes in each of his movies that are great.

Those are one and the same for me when assessing any film, in general.
