Percy Jackson's Valentine's Day with the Wolfman: Box Office for 2/12 - 2/15
Remember, we got a four day weekend due to Presidents' Day on Monday.
Finke, like always, is on top of her game and has the early estimates...
Going to be blunt and honest, who would've thought that Avatar would gross $700 fucking million dollars domestically once all was said and done? Now with NATO pissed off at Disney for shortening Alice in Wonderland's theatrical window, it gives Avatar the edge of keeping it's 3D screens to make it to that point.
Finke, like always, is on top of her game and has the early estimates...

Friday $16.5 million, Estimated 4-Day Weekend $60M

considering most Washingtonians were proabably sick of being couped up in their homes for the last few days since Tuesday's blizzard, last night's screening of 'Valentine's Day' in Mazza's largest auditorium was almost sold out and it's a total chick flick - I'd say it's top contender for #1 movie of the weekend.

Pretty solid number sll around. Wolfman looks to be doing fairly well for a gothic period piece horror film. V Day looks like it'll easily hang on to the #1 spot... and then plummet precipitously next weekend.

??????? Why would Disney shorten a movie's running dates? Seems they'd want it on screens as long as it is making money.

With "Avatar" grossing 22M again this weekend (just thru Sunday), with a 659.6M gross so far....clearly this movie will hit the 700M mark in the U.S.
Re: "Valentine's Day" and it's box-office take....my heart weeps.
And check out "The Blind Side" still chugging along. Doing 2.2M thru Sunday. With a 244.6M total. This will definitely make 250M or more. Who the hell would have guessed these numbers!??

I saw both Valentine's Day and Dear John this weekend. Valentine's Day wasn't bad, Dear John was pretty dreadful. Both afternoon shows were packed. My heart weeps for continued huge Avatar numbers more then a chick flick doing big business on valentine's day weekend

Re: Percy Jackson's Valentine's Day with the Wolfman: Box Office for 2/12 - 2/15
Avatar was number four this weekend, behind Valentine's Day, Percy Jackson, and The Wolfman.
Three days later it's back up to number two.
Almost nine weeks into its run.

I'd say that's due to the older folks checking out Avatar during the week and avoiding the weekend crowd. The rest of the movies are mainly geared towards the younger crowd and likely plays better on the weekend.
But Avatar has spent 8 weeks in the top 5, which is terrific nowadays. It'll probably be in the top 10 a little while longer.
I noticed The Wolfman made $1.5 mil yesterday. That seems to be fading fast. I'm not surprised, but I was still hoping it would chug along a little bit. But I have a feeling it's going to have a massive 60% drop this weekend and struggle to make $70 mil when all is said and done. Yes, it was disappointing, but it's one of my favorite film characters, so I'd still like it to be somewhat successful.
Box Office Mojo has the budget at $150 mil. It's gonna need some strong video sales...
