Terminator and T2 are near perfect
Just rewatched the Terminator and T2 on Bluray. They really are near perfect sci fi movies. The series should have ended there
Sure the original Terminator had cheap cheesy at times lookiing special FX, but the story, performances and feel of the movie is perfect. T2 is just amazing. The growth of Sarah Connor's character, the relationship between John and the arnie terminator was amazing. I have to admit, i teared up a bit when Arnie was lowered into the molten metal. Definitely 2 of the best sci fi action movies of all time |
Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
That is the James Cameron I will choose to remember.
Not the Titanic/Avatar Cameron. |
Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
Yep. The effects in T2 still look fantastic nearly 20 years later.
I do think they should have cut the scene in The Terminator where Spoiler:
A couple of great sci-fi flicks, though. |
Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
The FX in T1 kinda date it. But let's be honest, the fake Ah-nuld heads were obvious in the 80's as well.
The story is fantastic though. |
Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
T3 and T4 don't exist in my canon. Cameron knows how to do a SciFi movie as these two movies have a great story, good characters, good effects and some great actions scenes.

But the action sequences are fantastic. |
Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
i actually think over time Furlong's performance improves in my eyes
Linda Hamilton though will always be the stand out |
Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
I can't stand much more than 5 minutes of T2.
The Terminator is an excellent sci-fi B movie. |
Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
I've always preferred T1 over T2. I recently watched both again and still feel this way. T1 actually belongs in the 'quintessential 80s film' thread, imo.

Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
I love both of these movies as well. Hard for me to choose which one is better but the first one got that 80's magic movie formula I so much love. Love seeing movies that was filmed in the 80's. Very special to me.
Terminator 2 was great because Arnold who was the evil robot in the first one, won the hearts of fans in the sequel. That was uncanny, how this robot was so damn evil, yet in the 2nd one he turned out good. Though I like Terminator 3 because of the hot chick and action I don't consider it a true sequel. |
Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
Near perfect? Not even close, but still great movies. The first is much superior to the sequel, although both kick butt.

Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
I'm a bigger fan of T2 because that was one of my first theatrical experiences as a kid, but I agree that they are both fantastic action movies. If nothing else in that universe existed outside of those two films, I'd still be satisfied.

I admit once again...I kinda tear up when Arnie goes down that chain in T2. I bawled when I saw that in theaters. Damn, it was good to be born in the 80s and have a Dad to take you to one of the best action films ever when you were 6. |

I like T4 the best - T1 was pretty damn good too, T2 is kinda shitty.

Re: Terminator and T2 are near perfect
The first Terminator is great. Loved it as a kid, and still love it today. It's easily the best movie Cameron has ever directed, IMO. T2 is entirely different though. Loved it as a kid, Hate it now. Furlong is beyond annoying, The Terminator says shit like "I need a vacation", or "why do you cry?", I mean seriously, WTF is that shit? Oh, and let's not forget that he can't "kill" people any more, not to mention gives an incredibly cheesy thumbs up in the end. It's just stupid, IMO. I far prefer the gritty and serious tone of the first flick over the stupid comedic tone of the second flick.

You just have to enjoy T2 it for what it is. Purely an action flick. The 1st Terminator is a Horror movie for all intents and purposes. |

T2 really stretches things out and doesn't hold the tight pacing of T1 throughout, but the action scenes are top-notch. The special edition adds some needed depth and the T1000 is a menacing antagonist, but the kid's lack of acting skills plus Sarah Conner's sometimes over-acting bring it down in places. Still love both movies to death, of course. :) |
