It does show full frontal Theresa Russell if that interests anyone.
Yeah, it's pretty much a complete mess. The last 45 minutes are completely unnecessary. It does include one of my favorite ridiculous lines ever (somewhat of a spoiler):
Spoiler:
"The only thing you're guilty of is being innocent!"

Re: FAVORITE GENE HACKMAN FILM (Happy 80th!!)

This is a tough one. If it was going on his performance alone i would probably go with the French Connection. If its going with movie overall then i might go for Superman, No Way Out of A Bridge Too Far which is a personal favourite. He tends to be the best thing in most of the movies listed where he is a supporting actor. Get Shorty he was fantastic in and he was the best thing about Enemy of the State. Another movie of his that gets overlooked and that i really enjoy is "The Package."

I watched Scarecrow last year and for me it was a real "Meh!" movie. Nothing special at all really.

Re: FAVORITE GENE HACKMAN FILM (Happy 80th!!)

Scarecrow is great. It's Of Mice & Men set in the 70's.

Also, to those who are going to watch The Conversation for the first time, without giving anything away, there is question in the film that is never answered, but Walter Murch tells the answer in his commentary, and I have to say, it took away some of the enjoyment of the film for me... listen to the commentary at your own risk.

Re: FAVORITE GENE HACKMAN FILM (Happy 80th!!)

80 years old and he made 80 films (according to Wikipedia)

I voted The Conversation...great film, haunting performance.

It's good to see all the love for The Package, that's a great one. I wonder why Hackman didn't do Royal Tannenbaums and then retire right away. It would have been the perfect swan song. Why did he make 2 more lame movies?

I guess I'm alone on this, its not even in the pole, nobody seems to even like it. But if I had to choose just one Hackman movie, I absolutely love Night Moves, its my single favorite Hackman role. Probably in my top 5 films I'd love to see get a super re-released special edition of.

^ I'm with you Sessa17. I love Night Moves. Great performance. I mentioned it earlier in the thread. I thought it should have been a poll option. I was surprised when it wasn't.

Sorry, I must have missed that, I though you posted that French Connection was your favorite. At least someone else like Night Moves though.

Re: FAVORITE GENE HACKMAN FILM (Happy 80th!!)

I LOVE Hackman.

Too bad his last film was "Welcome to Mosseport". Not exactly going out on top.

The Poseidon Adventure - Hackman and Borgnine were great in their roles.

Re: FAVORITE GENE HACKMAN FILM (Happy 80th!!)

The first thing I saw him in was Poseidon Adventure so I would have to say that has always stuck in my mind but I am going to mention one that isn't on the list, Crimson Tide.

Re: FAVORITE GENE HACKMAN FILM (Happy 80th!!)

Finally got around to watching The Conversation. Loved the film, but it won't become one of my favorites. However, it may be Hackman's best performance.

Re: FAVORITE GENE HACKMAN FILM (Happy 80th!!)

I went with Target. A great film he did with a young Matt Dillion in 1985.
He plays an ex CIA agent whose wife gets kidnapped while in Paris.
Matt Damion plays his son.

Other films he did not on the list:

Crimson Tide
The Package
The Firm
No Way Out

Yes, I am glad I am not the only one that didn't forget him in Crimson Tide.

He was such a cold bastard in that movie. Happy Birthday, Gene!

I voted for The Conversation, but I just watched I Never Sang for My Father again last night. Good film.

Re: FAVORITE GENE HACKMAN FILM (Happy 80th!!)

With both Hackman and Sean Connery, I wish they would just come back and do one good swan song movie, kinda like Clint did with Gran Torino or Paul Newman had with Road To Perdition. Funny for two iconic actors to have Welcome To Mooseport and The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen as the last things on their resumes.
