Re: How often do you go to the cinema?
I go as often as possible. Usually no more than once per month unless it is time for the Asian Film Festival of Dallas, at which time I generally do 24 or so movies in a week.

I went to the movies *once* last year and I'm probably going *once* this year.
Both times were/are for retro showings of movies. Last year was "Ghostbusters" and it was the best audience for a movie I've been with in the last decade.

Re: How often do you go to the cinema?
I was surprised when I tallied up my movie-going from '09 and discovered that I made it out fourteen times last year. It helps that one of our nearby, first-run theaters has run $5 Tuesdays for the better part of a year now, meaning it's only $10 for my wife and I to go see something. The other thing that's helped keep us going out is another theater does midnight screenings of older movies every other Saturday. Last year, we went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman and Beetlejuice there. At the end of February, I'm planning on seeing The Godfather there.
I realize that today's crowds can be obnoxious, but there are ways around a lot of that. If it's a tentpole release like Transformers, I suggest either going with the first showing, midnight crowd (if possible) because they're much more likely to be into the movie and not accommodate a lot of interruptions. Otherwise, try to catch a matinee showing when the kids are either in class or sleeping off their hangovers.
There are a lot of movies--comedies, especially--that I think benefit from being watched with a larger audience. I think one of the reasons I enjoyed Paranormal Activity so much was that there was an entire auditorium full of people gasping in unison, followed by small rounds of self-conscious chuckles. There's something to be said for the communal viewing experience.
