Rollercoaster (1977) should be remade
Normally I hate remakes, but here is a movie I think could benefit. Imagine updating this with how cool theme parks and roller-coasters are today, plus the original is kind of sub-dued, a remake could be really intense!

..........................never heard of it.

Re: Rollercoaster (1977) should be remade
It kind of came at the tail end of the 70's disaster films. It's more a suspense thriller. It featured an all star cast, (Fonda, Widmark ,Segal, etc...) with mostly phoned in performances. Filmed in Sensurround with all the trappings and cliches of the disaster genre.
Considering all the crap they're remaking I suppose this will eventually be in line for one. |

No it really shouldn't

Re: Rollercoaster (1977) should be remade
Better be in 3-D. And D-BOX. And IMAX.

That movie really freaked me out when I was a kid. I can still see the cars flying off the tracks!

If I'm not mistaken, this has been one of the titles found at Big Lots! for $3. I've had it in my hands a time or two before passing on it.

Re: Rollercoaster (1977) should be remade
Didn't one of the Final Destination movies have a huge roller coaster disaster?

Re: Rollercoaster (1977) should be remade
^ Opening sequence to Final Destination 3 -- this was my first thought when I saw this thread.

Yes, and get Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins and Bruce Willis to star.
And Michael Cera as the bad guy. |

They could still get Sparks to play at the grand opening of the new coaster too! Maybe even bring back Helen Hunt.

Re: Rollercoaster (1977) should be remade
I really like the original. George Segal and Timothy Bottoms were great. Henry Fonda may have actually been asleep during filming.
Why stop at roller coasters? Amusement parks are filled with rides that could be turned into instruments of death. Have the bad guy sabotage different rides while working up to the big showdown with the hero. Not in the same park, of course. Too many incidents of multiple deaths would probably ruin business. |

It should star Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. And be a sequel to Car Wash.

And I remember the ads claiming it was in "Sensurround" which was a subwoofer in the theater to create some low-bass rumbling. |

I hadn't thought of this film in years until this thread! I remember having seen it in the theater, but I don't remember much about the movie itself. But with today's technology (in both coasters and movie-making), I'd like to see a remake (and I'm usually not fond of remakes...usually). Gotta be in 3-D.

If they are going to remake any 70's movie, it should be Damnation Alley. |
