I disagree that being able to charge fewer people more money is somehow a more impressive feat, I think it's just another way to get to the same revenue #. While repeat viewings at high prices is impressive, films at a similar box office total to Avatar would have had to have gotten either even more repeat viewings or reached an even wider audience - and I guess I just don't understand how that's less impressive than getting fewer people to pay more money.

I don't think either way is necessarily good or bad or better than the other, I'm just not sure how one is more impressive than the other.
I will say that I usually only see 1 or 2 movies a year at the theater because I feel they are too expensive - but i did see Avatar. I can't think of another movie I would ever care to see at $25 for 2 tickets.

I honestly thought it was a joke post. I guess I didn't hang out in the TF2 threads long enough.

It IS completly inconceivable that someone could prefer TF2 over Avatar. I'm in shock. I never even thought of comparing the two. TF2 makes Avatar look like Citizen Kane.

TF2 had Megan Fox. Reason enough to prefer it.

1) Apples and oranges debate.

2) If Transformers 2 just consisted of Megan Fox on all fours sucking some d and taking it up the a, then yes, one should prefer TF2 over Avatar.

3) I would prefer just getting punched in the face than having to sit through all of TF2 again. The few minutes my face will hurt will be greater than the 150 minutes of feeling I want to slit my wrists and end my own life.

Zoe Saldana has forgotten more about sexy than Megan Fox will ever learn.

That would be IF Zoe S. looked like that in AVATAR. Unfortunately, they blued her all over and CGI'd her and... sorry, but 11-foot-tall Pandorans ain't my thing.

(Now why CAN'T they make a movie where Zoe looks like she does in that photo? Once upon a time women WANTED to look hot, not blue, in films.)

You'd be known as the dude banging the hot blue alien. Nothing cooler than that. Megan who?

Once you go blue, you know you were overdue.

Too bad the Michael Bay's Transformer casting couch sessions weren't included as a bonus feature on the Blu-Ray.

There is a scene where she's in her underwear in ST, but for the rest of the movie she had that damned ugly uniform on.

I'd like to see her in a movie where she plays a sexy character. I haven't seen that yet.

I don't get the appeal of Megan Fox. She's nothing more than a silicone- and collagen-filled, tattoo-covered, talentless, classless, loud-mouthed trailer-trash whore.

After all, those ticket sales shouldn't count towards the real box office total, right?
Except they didn't charge more for teenage girls, "fanboys" and LOTR fanatics to see those films, so your argument is flawed.

Box office receipts are box office receipts, period. It's about how much a film makes, not how many tickets are sold. Adjusting for inflation is logical since there is a time value of money -- a dollar ten years ago is worth more than a dollar today, that's the cardinal rule of finance -- but when you're talking about how much money a movie made, number of tickets sold or how much tickets cost are irrelevant.

Hey, I don't have a dog in this fight. I was just pointing out that the poster's examples were not the same as padding BO receipts with more expensive 3D screenings.
