Slightly OT but it does relate to box office... has anyone kept their 3D glasses (not the IMAX ones) and used them again? Or do theaters charge the extra 3.50 no matter what?

I've never done the walk into 3D after paying thing. Avatar was the first 3D movie I've ever gone to. I would never do it myself. It was thought of just shooting the shit before the movie started. I'm sure lots of people come up with 'schemes' but never actually do them.

There are also pre-sell ticket info from places like Fandango and MovieFone, etc. These prediction folks do this week in, week out, and are usually within a few million of projections.

These are estimates, and they're usually within a couple hundred thousand of being right.

They've been doing this for years. Taking estimates from Friday and Saturday. And factoring in Sunday.

Ok sorry about my grammar but I for one would like to think that somewere, someone cares about american cinema.
That is to say the lack of caring about a country at time would pride itself in making memorable films.
They just don't care anymore it's all about dollars and cents not the craft and I will say american cinema is now dead.

I'll start by saying I have not seen Avatar (and have no desire to)
While the box office numbers are impressive it must be noted this movie is definately the beneficiary of good timing.
Just looking at what it has gone up against for the last 6 weeks, the competition for mass audience viewership is just laughable.
The only competition this movie has had is the choice of staying home in the winter and not seeing anything.
