What Are Your Top 5 Favorite Films Directed by African-Americans?
1. HIGHER LEARNING

2. TRAINING DAY

3. SWING KIDS

4. THE BOOK OF ELI

5. CROOKLYN

It's also sad that there aren't too many female African-American directors (which reminds me I've been wanting to rent LOVE & BASKETBALL for a long time now). There's some here and there in Hollywood, but it seems like they only get to do at least two films before fading away.
But then again, there aren't too many good white female directors out there as well! (except for Katherine Bigelow

Do the Right Thing
One False Move
Menace II Society
Boyz N The Hood
Malcolm X or maybe Jungle Fever, really had a hard time coming up with a fifth, but the first four are solid.

Trying to come up with some that I both enjoyed and haven't been mentioned ...
Super Fly
Cotton Comes to Harlem
Baadasssss!
From Hell
It's pretty silly, but I enjoyed Head of State.

Going strictly by the definition African-American:
The Learning Tree (the first studio film directed by a Black director, why WB hasn't released it as an Archive title at the least is maddening)
Shaft (the original)
Black Dynamite
The Spook Who Sat By The Door
Superfly
