I don't have a problem with Spider-man 3 straying from the comics. I had a problem with it balancing too many damn villains and storylines. They should have just made it a Spider-man vs Venom movie.
Why are they making a new Spider-man movie during his teenage years? In the comics that only lasted till a little after Ditko left. I'm pretty sure he's been an adult since the mid 70s.
And the current comics are awful.

Not since the 1950s have popcorn movies been more reliant on 3D technology to help ratchet up their box office success, though with rare exceptions the trend hasn't quite collided with the Hollywood's ongoing love affair with superheroes. Sony Pictures plans to change that in 2012 with word that their next "Spider-Man" picture will bow with full 3D support.
As Variety reports, the movie will open in theaters on July 3, 2012 and will be presented in 3D. "Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we're thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D," Sony chairman of marketing & distribution Jeff Blake told the trade.
Official word came down last month that the fourth Spider-Man feature would take the franchise in a new direction under the helm of "(500) Days of Summer" director Marc Webb and would feature a rebooted story focusing on the teenage adventures of Peter Parker. However, while rumors have swirled about casting after "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" actor Logan Lerman said he was in talks to play the superhero lead, nothing has been officially confirmed by Sony and Columbia Pictures.

Much more intriguing is the fact the new date will pit "Spider-Man" versus Paramount Pictures' currently untitled "Star Trek" sequel. The highly-anticipated second installment of J.J. Abrams global blockbuster is currently scheduled to open on June 29, 2012. That's only three days before the new "Spider-Man" hits theaters.

The only thing they need to add to what it looks like a piece of shit is to cast Miley Cyrus as Mary Jane, Taylor Swift as Gwen Stacy, Robbert Pattison as Green Goblin, Taylor Lautner as Flash Thomson and Kathy Bates as Aunt May.

I'm more than willing to give the new ones a chance... I was never particularly fond of the first three. I haven't seen 500 Days yet, but the choice of director intrigues me. Thats all we have to go on at this point... they're giving it the right amount of time it needs to be made at least.

While I agree with this sentiment, that hasn't stopped Hollywood before - hell DEATH AT A FUNERAL got a remake within 3 years.

The movie feels incredibly dated as is, but that song really doesn't help. This version is likely to suffer the same fate. What Spider-man needs is a strong director that won't be a studio puppet; someone who'll be able to make the film as his own vision.

What's amusing is that studio executives are morons. Literally. I'm not saying they're bad people, but they're barely what most would call "bright". They got their positions in one of a couple ways- they went to business school and got an MBA and had an uncle in the film business, or they started as wannabe film directors and took the sycophants road- that is, they began as a PA, found a job as an executive assistant (qualifications? typing, phone calls, and ass-kissing) and got bumped to an executive position when the inevitable musical chairs deposed their boss(es).
There are times when these executives start to notice that they may not know what they're doing, the box office suffers, so they start cutting the reigns.. thus you get that time in the late 60's and 70's where the directors seemed to take over, but then the directors overstretched themselves (see Days of Heaven) and the success of Star Wars and Jaws enboldened the executives and made them think they knew the magic formula. I'm not one of the hippie jackasses who BLAMES Spielberg and Lucas for this- they were artists and did interesting work, but the executives learned the wrong lessons from their success.
Then of course, the Miramax era came about and opened the door for more creative control for directors. The success of Pulp Fiction was a double-edged sword.. all the studios bought up the independents but still granted a certain amount of freedom... until... that "YEAR OF GLOOM AND DOOM" in '05 or '06 where they said film is dying and no one's going to the theatres and bullshit bullshit.
So we saw with SpiderMan 3 that the executives were reasserting themselves (and PS, I've worked with Ziskin and the others involved. Nice people... but little tweety-birds in their heads). Nolan still has some freedom with Batman because of how successful Dark Knight was, but that's a holdover. Now he's seen as a "guru" (see Superman reboot).. But my prediction- Superman reboot will fail, despite Nolan's best efforts. He's a director, not a producer. The "magic touch" thing that executives always hope for rarely works.
Avatar was the worst thing that could happen, as far as stretching out this current wave of "revenge of the nerds". I don't blame Cameron (though I thought the movie was kind of lame)- he's an artist who had an aesthetic interest in 3D. I think that's perfectly fine. But, it's success has made the execs think they know that "magic" formula again. Expect much less director freedom in the next few years.
But it's a cycle, it'll swing back. In the meantime, this Spiderman reboot will suck and fail and they'll release Webb from his contract and reboot again 2 years later.

Good scriptwriter and good director and they get this clown casted as Spidey? What happened the JGL rumor?
Oh well I hope this movie bombs and no sequels are made and this will be forgotten.
It's a shame the Rami trilogy never got closure, ended on a bad note but Rami's direction with this movie was awful too. He wanted the Vulture to be a villain and have some crap with his daughter getting involved with Peter, it was so awful.

Now I knew he wanted The Vulture in SM4 but...where did you get the news about the daughter? I don't think I saw that ever.

It was reported in December 2009 that John Malkovich was in negotiations to play Vulture, and that Anne Hathaway would play Felicia Hardy, though she would not have transformed into the Black Cat, as in the comics. Instead, Raimi's Felicia was expected to become a brand-new superpowered figure called the Vulturess.

There was a plot synopsis posted a while back back of Rami's plot. And no that wasn't SM3's problem. Rami came to accept Venom after reading some of his stories. The script itself was just awful. Screwing Venom was one thing but the script was awful in most parts but blame Alvin Sargent for that.
The producers are also to blame for forcing things but Rami is somewhat blameable too because of he made some of the bad decisions too. It had Rami's trademark slapstick humor too.
And this Logan Lerman douche cannot act, that's why he's a clown. He's also been in crappy movies.
