Nope, thus why I mentioned
in my post. The first isn't poorly paced at all to me, and yep, this sequel does tarnish the first just like Halloween II tarnishes it's original with the sister idea. As for Star Wars, I couldn't care less about that overhyped trash, and I'll take PA over it any day, thanks. If you think less of my opinion because of that, I don't care about that either.

Cool bro. Sorry that a sequel has ruined your enjoyment for a previous film. That's what I find comical most of all. How DARE THEY TAINT MY PRECIOUS VIDEO CAMERA MOVIE!
Also their explanation as to the why of the demon following the characters is something, which is a lot better than the no explanation other than "just because" they offered in the first one.

Oh well, I find it rather comical myself when someone gets uptight about others' opinions. It's one of the reasons I get a kick out of browsing the IMDb boards. But yeah, there's no "how dare" to it. I'm not outraged, just saying how it doesn't work in connection to the first for me. As mentioned, it's a solid film if I view it on it's own, so I'll enjoy it that way in the future much the same way I do Blair Witch 2.
I prefer no explanation, as it's scarier. In the first Halloween, Michael Myers is stalking Laurie Strode and her friends at random. The second then come along and spoils that with the sister explanation.

I prefer the first PA because it fucks with you subconsciously.
The scene with the attic/crawlspace, the fact that most action occurs in their bedroom; those are moments where the first film shines. Not because there's jump scares, but because Peli is making a statement that you're not safe in the place you think you're the safest.
The only scene that really communicates that in PA2 is the scene where the family comes home and feel they were burglarized. However, it doesn't fuck with you because the scene is there mostly to help move the plot along regarding the connection to Katie.

Given the added camera angles that this sequel to "Paranormal Activity" supposedly has set up through its early plotline, it does get a little annoying to be shown events from certain camera angles when there was "supposedly" a better camera angle to see "what happened". Anyhow, it's about 30 minutes of good footage fluffed up with an extra hour of normalcy with little pay-off.
For the most parts, most of the "scary" parts played off more funny than scary this time around.
I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

Jump scares aren't creepy, they are just surprising.
Creepy movies don't make you jump, they make you feel uneasy.
Man there sure was A LOT of stuff from the trailers missing from the movie.

A ton of stuff missing from the trailers and the commercials.
I felt this one, while not being as scary or dreadful as the first PA, had better acting and one hell of an explanation for the hauntings. I love the backstory/mythology it has created. I love the fact that the family goes back and watches the video footage from previous nights. It did feel rushed however. No build up to the end.

Saw it tonight. The first half is slow, the second dials everything up to eleven and kind of blows the first out of the water. All of the stuff you wanted to see happen in the first, happens here. I enjoyed the pacing toward the end, and only thought the last night is to tie both movies together and conclude the story.
Acting is much better, as are the 'payoff' nights toward the end.
A sequel won't top these two, so Paramount shouldn't bother. They will, though. Also, to those avoiding the movie because 'the good stuff is in the trailers,' it's not. I promise. No baby in the street, and many other scenes are cut. The stuff that made it, though, is good. Very good.
I loved it, 3 stars.

Saw it last night but there was a group of friends in the row in front of us that wouldn't shut up, so it kinda took us out of the movie.
I still managed to concentrate on the movie and i really liked it, thought it was really spooky but those douches were really annoying!
I swear if it's not cell phones lighting all over the theater it's dumbasses talking, there's always SOMETHING! When will people learn that THEY'RE NOT IN THEIR LIVING ROOM! THAT THERE'S OTHER PEOPLE BESIDES THEM!!
I know not everyone can be movie lovers/geeks but come on!
Anyways, yeah great movie nonetheless!

For those that have seen the movie: could you tell me (in spoiler tags, I guess, if it's a big deal) if the dog gets hurt? Sounds silly, I know... my wife wants to see it, but will be royally pissed if anything bad happens to the dog.

I was lukewarm about the first one. I thought it was more of an "event" that I would never revisit. However, not only did I like this one better, I thought it made the first one better by association. I liked the added story, it gave the first one more substance. I was thoroughly entertained

This movie was an absolute boring crapfest and i was a fan of the first one. Run time is 90 minutes and it literally takes 70 minutes for anything to happen. And when it does start happening most of it is just rehash from the first movie. When it was over i heard about 5 diffrent people yell out " I want my money back". A real dissapointment.

Re: Paranormal Activity 2 (Greutert, October 2010)
I sometimes wonder if I saw the same film as everyone else. I saw an advance preview with 200 people - and we all LAUGHED throughout the ENTIRE film.
I understand 'to each his own', but I didn't find anything of interest in the first half of the film, and the 2nd half was too silly to be scared (hence the laughter)
But obviously others enjoyed it, and more power to 'em!
