Extraordinary Measures(Vaughn), Brendan Frasier, Harrison Ford(2010)

I see no thread for this movie so here goes:

Plot: John Crowley a man who's children are diagnosed with the genetic disorder Pompe's Disease, embarks on a quest to find a cure through raising money for research.

Director: Tom Vaughan
Starring: Brendan Frasier and Harrison Ford
Based off of a true story

Looks interesting, I'm a sucker for these types of movies and I've seen a ton of promo materials at work(my job is doing a marketing campaign for CBS Films).

I grew up with Harrison Ford, and Brendan Frasier I have always felt would be a good spiritual successor for him, so the two together in a film has me anxious

Looks like a below average movie-of-the-week.

Because of the CBS logo at the open for the commercials, I thought it was a made for TV movie.

I've got to agree...it really looks like a Lifetime Movie of the Week.

Are we sure Harrison Ford isn't a degenerate gambler who owes the mob like a hundred grand or something?

Oh my god. Every time the commercial comes on I think it's a made for TV movie. I don't know if it's the music or that it seems overly long.

First time I saw the commercial I said to my wife "Harrison Ford is doing TV movies now?" and then I saw "In Theaters..." and I laughed.

Judging by the trailers I have seen it just looks like no one has any idea how to market this movie. This isn't helped by the fact the movie does indeed look cheap and completely bland.

Up until I just read the plot synopsis in the OP, I really only had a very faint idea of the basic plot of the movie.

Since it's starring two of cinema's finest archeologists... Indiana Jones and the guy from The Mummy... I hope it goes this route.

Yeah, looks like a movie-of-the-week. Doubt I'll head to the theaters to check this one out.

Wasn't Michael Keaton or Hugh Grant already in a movie like this?

It's too bad they couldn't get these two stars to be in a Indiana Jones and the Curse of the Mummy crossover film!

Well, on the upside, this looks likes a cinematic masterpiece compared to Furry Vengeance.

Re: Extraordinary Measures(Vaughn), Brendan Frasier, Harrison Ford(2010)

Well my take is that the movie is based off of a true story that at it's core is inspirational.

If the true nature of the plot makes it look somewhat Lifetime-y I would say that it's unintentional, as the plot is designed to showcase the drive of a father to help his kids who are dying.

I don't personally think the plot is reminiscent of this type of film personally any more than Denzel Washington's John Q was a few years back. Both of these movies showcase the sometimes grossly impersonal aspect of the medical industry and a fathers drive to overcome it, to varying results.

My wife and I both noticed the "look" and immediately thought made for tv.

It's not the subject matter. I looks like it was shot like a tv soap opera on video.

Desperate Mesaures and Extreme Measures, both masterpieces on the same level as this.

Ford probably signed on when there was actual hype surrounding the movie. Despite how dreadful it looks, it was originally based on a Pulitzer Prize winning book. It was filmed here in Portland and the news was excited about it, mentioning the book. Once filming started though, there were a few stories before the whole production was completely ignored by the local media.

Whoever did the trailers should be fired unless they specifically wanted them to look like a made for TV movie; and I don't know why they would do that!

If movie theaters are charging more money for 3D or for Imax, then movie theaters should charge the public less money for a TV movie like this.

Really? Judging by the trailers and TV spots I can tell you every single plot point and how it's going to end.

I think everyone is in agreement that this has a CBS or Lifetime feel. The question is, how bad will it bomb? I bet it makes 3M or less opening weekend.

All I can think is "Lorenzo's Oil" every time I see the trailer. I think it's pretty obvious what the A-B will likely be and the gamut of emotions that will be run over the course of the movie. I just didn't know who was sick and with what. Or moreso, I didn't care.

I don't watch much TV, but I've seen like 3 different trailers a couple times for this... but I usually spend 80% of them thinking "Get off my plane!" or "Snakes, why did it have to be snakes?"

Each trailer has had a completely different tone, but all of them scream made for TV.

I think it's just obvious that:

- This movie is bad and is being dumped with a Jan release
- No one is sure who to market it to (Ford fans, drama fans, inspirational true story fans)

Now, a story I truly couldn't predict was that Avatar film!

At this point they should just show it on Lifetime and be done with it. I don't think anyone looks at the commercial and thinks to themselves that this is going to be in the theater and I have to be there to see it.

Wow, saw commercials again last night and my thoughts were this is a TV movie or a joke. Maybe it'll make money but I was thinking "What are Brendan Frasier and Harrison Ford doing a TV movie for?" Then I realized it was not a TV movie. We'll see.

The current advertising angle is "If you enjoyed "The Blind Side", you might like this movie too." Oy!

Re: Extraordinary Measures(Vaughn), Brendan Frasier, Harrison Ford(2010)

im not sure if you all are aware but the reason Ford did this movie is because he is also executive producer of the film. I read an article in Time magazine...he seems very proud of the subject matter and how it turned out
