Return of the Living Dead always fascinated me when I was younger. It was thrilling, scary, and always fun. First horror movie that I ever saw like that.
And, for some reason, Dan O'Bannon was one of the first names that stuck in my head, when I was ten-or-so, just watching and learning about movies.
RIP

I'm pretty bummed right now. I woke up in a great mood (doesn't happen often haha) and literally the second thing I saw on the net was of his passing. As someone else said his name was one of the first I remembered when I was younger, and I've been a fan of his for 2/3 of my life. RIP

THIS JUST IN: O'Bannon isn't dead, though he appears to have major medical problems. I just received a message from him saying, "Send more paramedics."

Had the pleasure of meeting him at a Fangoria Weekend of Horrors, way back when that show was cool. Twenty years ago? The cast of Return of the Living Dead was there (signed my poster!), but I just talked to him. Mostly about Alien.
Well, OK, I talked to Linnea Quigley a lot, too.
Sad day. Too young!

I am quite upset to hear that he passed away. I was always a huge fan of his work and like others here, he was one of the first people I was aware of when researching my favorite films as a kid.

Passing of a giant, and way too young. For a time there, every making-of doc I watched had him in it. I like the idea of him crawling out of the grave to eat our braaaiiiins, though.
