Re: X-Men: First Class (Vaughn, 2011)
January Jones (sounds like a Bond girl name) is Emma.

Never heard of her. And, yes, she certainly has a Bond girl name.

considering whos directing it should come as a surprise to no one that Jason Flemyng has been cast in First Class, but now we know who hell be playing.
source
Flemying is a great actor, so this is good news to me. at first i didnt really care about this movie, but the more i hear the more i get excited for it.
BFI's Movie-Con III is in full effect in London right now and ComingSoon.net's man abroad Ben Mortimer has learned that actor Jason Flemyng, last seen playing Calibos in Louis Letterier's Clash of the Titans and in a small role in Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass, will be reteaming with Vaughn for a role in X-Men: First Class. That role will be Azazel, who was described as a "teleporter" during Flemyng's presentation for Jonathan English's Ironclad, but who is in fact none other than Nightcrawler's father!
The character first appeared in "Uncanny X-Men" #428 in a storyline called "The Draco" where we finally learned that Kurt Wagner a.k.a Nightcrawler was the son of the lead of an ancient race of mutants, from biblical times no less, who looked like demons and who could teleport by opening portals into other dimensions. In the comics, Azazel had been banished to the "Brimstone dimension" by angels, but left that dimension to father children, one of them being Nightcrawler. It's likely we might just see Azazel in a small role but if he's in the movie, can Nightcrawler be far behind?
Flemyng told the Movie-Con crowd that like Calibos, his character will involve a lot of make-up and that he'll have a tail, which will be added in post-production

With filming set to begin in London next month, Matthew Vaughn's prequel/spinoff X-Men: First Class is still in it's late casting stage. And now according Deadline, Oliver Platt is set to star in the First Class, playing a role called The Man in Black, who is not a mutant.
Obviously there isn't any known background info on the role, but Oliver Platt is best known for his roles in The Three Musketeers, A Time to Kill, Huff, Frost/Nixon and in Roland Emmerich's world-ending thriller 2012.
And Platt currently stars with Laura Linney in the new Showtime series The Big C, and next stars opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway in the Ed Zwick-directed Love and Other Drugs.
Platt joins a growing ensemble including James McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), Nicholas Hoult (Beast),Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), Lucas Till (Havok), and Kevin Bacon (Surprise villain), Edi Gathegi(Darwin), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), and recently added Rose Byrne (Dr. Moira MacTaggert).
And First Class hits theaters June 3, next year!

The X-Men: First Class casting news just keeps pouring in. Earlier today we reported that Morgan Lily will play a young Mystique in the film. Deadline has news of a few more additions, of which the Emmy-nominated January Jones (Mad Men) has the highest profile; she will play the telepathic mutant Emma Frost. Alice Eve was at one point in negotiations for the role, though apparently a deal was never finalized.
Meanwhile, Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road) has signed on to play Angel, and Bill Milner (Son of Ramobw) has signed on to play a young Magneto. (You may recall the role of “old” Magneto belongs to Michael Fassbender.)
Major props due to the casting director on First Class. It remains to be seen whether Jones can launch a film career from her budding TV stardom, though there are few better training grounds than Mad Men. And there is a soft spot in my heart for Son of Rambow, so I’m happy to see Milner on board such a major project.
Here’s how the casting currently stacks up:
- James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier
- Michael Fassbender as Magneto
- Bill Milner as Young Magneto
- Nicholas Hoult as Beast
- Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee
- Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique
- Morgan Lily as Young Mystique
- Kevin Bacon as the villain (rumored to be Sebastian Shaw)
- Edi Gathegi as Darwin
- Jason Flemyng as Azazel
- Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert
- Oliver Platt as The Man in Black
- January Jones as Emma Frost
- Zoe Kravitz as Angel

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Not at all. I bet only McAvoy, Fassbender, and Bacon get a lot of screentime. And Oliver Platt will most likely be a background character setting up a sequel. The rest I'm sure will be treated as an ensemble of supporting characters that will have their uses but wont take the spotlight.

Re: X-Men: First Class (Vaughn, 2011)
I personally think it sounds like a bad idea; how are they going to do the effects correctly with the entire production window at 9 months? And to compound the issue, they are throwing all kinds of mutants into this one. Personally, some of the casting is just bad, like Shaw being portrayed by Bacon, which isn't his fault, and January Jones, who can be a complete ice queen but that's all of her range.
I don't care so much about having the original team if this isn't a reboot but another issue is that Fox's whole mutant continuity sucks big time. This is supposed to be the 60's but Xaiver's in his 20's even though he was already bald and Patrick Stewarty in the late 70's Wolverine film. McTaggert was in the X3 movie and in her 40's/50's but she's to be in her 20's here. Hopefully they don't mess with the Banshee/McTaggert stuff.

I don't know if this movie will be worth a damn, but I'm about 1000 more excited for this cast than I was for the original X-men movie. So there is that. Especially the new Magneto, which is just PERFECT casting. He even has teeth the way Jim Lee draws them!

Well the thing is that Striker's base is Three Mile Island which had it's accident in '79. And six years passed after Logan was released from that prison in Vietnam so it's late 70's. They want Wolverine 2 to be in 1980's Japan.
It's all because of the sloppy work that could easily be taken care of but they just shrug it off.

I think it's supposed to be 2001 or more. Again, they really screwed up compared to Marvel.
Another reason why it would be great for this movie to tank:

If Marvel can get back FF with them already having Namor, that would be the most awesome thing ever.

Although the actress has met with FOX several times in regards to starring the Fantastic Four reboot, the film will not enter into production until the studio's next comic book film, Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, is proven successful.
