I'd give them all AAA+.

Excepting Robin Hood, Black Cauldron, Hunchback and Emperor's New Groove... because I have not seen them. I have seen enough of each to let me know that, frankly, I have no interest watching them in their entirety.

Hold up. Are you grading these films based on their animation? Or story, etc? Because anyone who rates the animation for "Sleeping Beauty" below an A+ should be banned from the board indefinitely. And shame on you.

I was basing my grades on the film itself as a whole. Sleeping Beauty is certainly animated nicely, but it sends me into a deep sleeping coma whenever I try watching it.

Most people just watch it and not try to act it out. :D

Rottentomatoes ranked the Disney animated films recently, although they included the 4 CGI films they made (Bolt, Chicken Little, Dinosaur, Meet the Robinsons):

Really. They may not be the cream of the crop but they are still considered part of the classics line. Here are the rest:

Emperor's New Groove
Lilo & Stitch
Atlantis
Fantasia 2000
Brother Bear
Home on the Range
Treasure Planet
the Princess and the Frog

What is "the classics line"? Because "Atlantis" and "Treasure Planet" would never be considered Disney classics. And weren't huge box-office hits (83M and 38M respectively). On that list, "Lilo & Stitch" is the most beloved. Followed by "The Emperor's New Groove". "Brother Bear" got mostly negative reviews but still managed to pull in 85M. "Fantasia 2000" was a hit at IMAX but bombed in regular theaters a few months later. "Home on the Range" got mixed reviews and was an underperformer at the box-office (50M). The jury is still out for "The Princess and the Frog". But with a 25M opening this weekend, that looks like it'll top off around 80-100M in it's entire run.

I don't care at all for Sleeping Beauty either  Then again, I feel that way about a lot of the classics that i've rewatched recently after buying them on Blu-ray (Snow White and Pinocchio)

And the reason I mentioned it is because Emperor's New Groove and Lilo and Stitch are actually two of my favorite Disney animated films :)

Box Office success has nothing to do with whether a film qualifies as part of the "classics" line. Disney determines what is and what isn't. All the films I listed are considered part of the classics. I think it mostly has to do with them being animated by Disney proper and not a lower tier studio like the DuckTales movie.

Best Disney animated features:

BAMBI
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
PINOCCHIO
FANTASIA

And that's pretty much it.

The question was "hand drawn". I chose Fantasia 2000 as the movie that was computer generated instead of cel animation. I could be mistaken.

Fantasia was a mixture of hand-drawn pieces and 2 CGI pieces.

Which I think was the argument in the Sheep game

I think the distinction is probably meant by 3D Animated films and 2D, and not necessarily hand drawn since most animation these days is done with some computer work.

I realize box-office has nothing to do with the quality of a film. And in this case, it clearly doesn't matter to Disney either. Since they can easily slap the word "Classic" above any title. Leave it to Disney!

I think, in the case, the word "classic" refers to a specific label applied to Disney's theatrically released animated features, and not to the general definition of the word "classic."

However, it looks like it's not even a term Disney itself uses anymore:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...mation_Studios

When the numbering system was introduced, the group of films included became collectively known as the "Disney Animation Canon." ...Many film historians and animation fans refer to them as Disney "classics."
This usage probably arose from the old "Disney Classics" video line:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney_Classics

Which was then succeeded by the "Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection" line:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Di...ece_Collection

Which was then succeeded by the "Walt Disney Gold Classic Collection" line, again using the word "classic":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Di...sic_Collection

Which was then succeeded by the "Walt Disney Platinum Editions" line:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Di...tinum_Editions

Which is now being succeeded by the "Walt Disney Diamond Editions" line:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Di...amond_Editions

why the order? I just copied and pasted Todd's (and part of Hokeyboy's) initial list since my left hand has a cast on it and I'm too lazy to edit my list into something coherent
