I'm happy there's no Invictus.
I don't know why I end up rooting against Eastwood films... he's become such Oscar bait. |

Really hard to perform as yourself...

Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
Princess and the Frog as best film of the year? It was good, but not that good.

Jesus...that's a horrible list.

Haven't seen that either but yeah...isn't that a bizarre pick? How about the top 3 being animated! I still have 10 or more movies of 2009 to see before I can compile MY list, but I can you that "Inglorious Basterds" will surely be #1 and "Star Trek" somewhere on there.

Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
How dare they not include more fanboy favorites!
|
Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
By including Fantastic Mr. Fox and District 9 I thought they were playing to fanboys.

Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
I think that it's a decent list:
I loved Up, The Hurt Locker, The White Ribbon, Of Time and the City, and District 9. They will all be in my personal top 20 of the year. I thought that Thirst was okay, but I didn't like it that much. I need to see The Princess and the Frog, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Up in the Air, and A Single Man. |
Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
No Sam Rockwell for Moon?
Fail |
Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
Well there's no doubt any of the animated stuff will win any relevant Oscars.
I hate how it's impossible for the average moviegoer to see most of these. The White Ribbon? A Single Man? Of Time and the City? I've never even heard of these. |
Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
I like these lists because they're different than most will end up being, but I think they should swap out Michael Jackson with Sharlto Copley.

where the fuck is INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS?
|
Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
Chris Waltz was by far the best performance of the year for me. I loved that character.

Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
10. Michael Jackson as Michael Jackson in Michael Jackson's This Is It |

"The White Ribbon" is another film by the often brilliant Michael Haneke and it won Palme d'or at Cannes this year. It should be making its way to the big cities in the next month or so, and on to some of the smaller areas after that (it's coming to where I live in Utah in February.) And "A Single Man" got pretty good reviews at the Toronto Film Festival and is just starting its limited release. So you can't see them now, but they'll be making their way around over the coming months. And they are both worth seeing based on what I've heard. |

Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
So, Mo'Nique acting like a demon and playing the most stereotypical abusive parent, is better than the subtlety and menace of Christoph Waltz?
It's too bad the entirely CGI creation of Christopher Johnson isn't allowed, because he was more convincing than over half that list. |
Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
No Jason Statham? Bogus list.

Re: Time Magazine's 10 Best Films and 10 Best Performances of 2009
I wasn't as hot on District 9 as everyone else here, but Sharlto Copely's performance deserves to be in the top 10 performances list.*
*doesn't matter if I have seen zero of the 10 movies in the performances list. :D |
