Re: So...what does your "Top 10 of this Decade List" look like?

1 City of God
2 Return of the King (or all three)
3 The Motorcycle Diaries
4 Sometimes in April
5 Y Tu Mama Tambien
6 Riding Giants
7 George Washington
8 Children of Men
9 Punch Drunk Love
10 Road to Perdition

Anyone who made one of these probably already knows that making this list was way too hard. I guess it comes down to which movies we connect with the most...for whatever reason.

Yeah, this thread should be the best 25-50 of the decade. Every critic' is doing a "50 Best of" list. It's just too damn difficult to narrow down 10 films from 10 years.

Fuck. I didn't realize that 25th Hour came out this decade. That would probably have to bump one of my movies out of my list. It's one of my all-time favorite films. Good job by the The Onion for putting that in their list.

2000 should be last decade, and 2010 is still this decade.

I mean, when you count, you don't start with zero.

The year 1 BC was followed by 1 AD, there was no 0 AD.

The '60s: 1960-1969
The '70s: 1970-1979
The '80s: 1980-1989
The '90s: 1990-2000?....no

The '90s are 1990-1999, the 2000s or " '00s" are 2000-2009, and 2010 and later would be the "2010s" or " '10s"

Sorry, but I wasn't stating my opinion, just the fact of what a decade actually is. The numeral integer is immaterial. A decade starts with 1 and ends with 10. By your "math" the first decade would only be 9 years - since a decade, by definition is 10 years, the last year of the first decade is 10AD, and then the second decade starts with 11AD and so on.

Is anyone going with skilz going to compile an overall top ten total from all the lists since we're all begging for it ...really, ok, maybe I don't really care. But still ....

I think "incongruous" fits more than "distracting" regarding the dogs in Up. I don't recall having that feeling about any part of A.I. I just wasn't sure what I was supposed to care about, maybe was the thing. Like I said, I haven't seen it since its theatrical run and I've done a lot of evolving as a person and as a film viewer since then. I'll be sure to post my current observations when I do sit down with it, though.

I sincerely hope it was a joke, because I responded to it in that context with my Die Another Day suggestion.

I tried arguing this in one of the other "Best of the Decade" threads several days ago. If nothing else, it's comforting to know someone else gets it, even as the rest of the world seems hellbent on running their decades from 0-9 instead of 1-10.

5. Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

8. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
8. Mulholland Drive (2001)
8. The Departed (2006)
