Weekend Box Office 11/25 - 11/29: You Answer to Sandra Bullock Edition
Wednesday and Thursday have so far brought us to the following...
For those just curious and unable to do math, the first two days of the five-day holiday weekend are totals are:
New Moon; 23.5 million
Blind Side; 17.5 million
Ninja Assassin; 8 million
2012; 7.5 million
Old Dogs; 7.5 million
Interesting to see New Moon drop 30% plus on Thanksgiving and curious to see if it drops even more, especially with Blind Side getting amazing word of mouth and growing each day.
Interesting to note, Disney's first traditional animated film in more than five years (Princess and the Frog) has done almost $500,000 in it's first two days on only two screens.

Impressive to see Blind Side beat New Moon for a day, even if it is just a day. I'll probably be catching it tomorrow since my girlfriend wants to see it. Ninja Assassin for me today!

New Moon did $144 million last weekend. You're late to the party if you're questioning the public's taste in cinema.
The drop for New Moon is intriguing as only two movies took a Thanksgiving drop: Planet 51 (family movie) and The Road (front loaded apocalyptic drama). More intriguing is that it had a 36% drop whereas the others were much smaller.
I'll be curious if it even has a jump moving into Friday. I'm assuming yes, but it's also Black Friday and most are out shopping today. I have a gut feeling that Blind Side could pull in an upset this weekend. If not for the five-day, then at least the three-day.

Is anyone surprised NM would have a sizeable drop? Tweens don't have a bottomless wallet. One or two viewings and they're outta cash.
Damn, I need to get out to see The Road and Ninja Assassin but I have no time this weekend. Wouldn't mind seeing Blind Side either. Guess Bullock was smart to take a pay cut in exchange for a % of the gross.

If the drops continue or the gross stays consistent, it's going to pull in a three-day weekend total of $30 million. That's a drop of almost 80%. That's a huge fucking drop and will be one of the biggest drops for any film from opening weekend to second.

OK but seriously... could ANYONE have predicted Bullock was going to have THIS kind of year? (All About Steve, notwithstanding...)

As far as The Blind Side? I haven't the slightest. The movie looks singularly awful to me, but I think it appeals to the Sportshole communty (who are bringing their families along), and their wives don't mind because it has Bullock in it. So I'd say she has a lot to do with its success.

Its tracking around what twilight did last year. If you are worried because it went down on thanksgiving, I think we all know the reason there.

I would say she's probably mostly responsible for The Proposal's success, given that (1) it wasn't particularly well reviewed, and (2) Ryan Reynolds is not a box office draw.

I'm still pretty sure that Twilight will keep the #1 spot although I have never seen any of the movies or read the books and probably never will because that just is not my thing

Alright so compared to last Friday, Twilight 2 is down 75%. Compared to last Friday, Blind Side is up 50% -- though most people seem to absolutely love that flick.
The Princess and the Frog made $138,000 per theater (it showed in 2 theaters, charity showings?) damn that's a lot of cash.

Sad to see that it looks like Fantastic Mr. Fox is tanking, I'll have to get out there this week for sure.
