those are crazy numbers for New Moon, thats something I would expect a big event movie like 2012 open with, not a teen girl type of flick. Looks like the blindside opened well, Though theres been a ton of previews for it basically nonstop for the bast few weeks.

Didn't like the other box office thread?
Solid opener for Blind Side. I hear it's pretty good.
As for NM beating something like 2012, you gotta remember NM is a franchise-based pic with a built-in fanbase, whereas 2012 was a non-sequel, non-franchise picture. It did exceptionally well in that respect.

Well, in fairness, if you read the actual contents of the other thread, there is no information posted there regarding any other movie's BO take (besides Harry Potter and Batman movies), and there isn't even any discussion regarding other movies released or in theaters this weekend. It is just a Twilight bashing fest.

If the number holds, that'll be the second $30M+ opener for Sandra Bullock in 2009. Before this year she had never opened a film to over $18M. Even with the mini-stumble of All About Steve, she's having a great year.

Hm. Everything about these movies passed me by. I just remember Kevin Smith mocking it a little bit, and questioning the feel of that scene from Comicon. That said, I'm always down for a sappy love story. I'll probably end up seeing this one in the theaters.

Do these threads always have to have a stupid, cute title? "Eclipse of the Moon", "Zombies Ate Meatballs" (from a while back).

Nope, just fun with titles, and it's better than "Weekend Box Office Thread. Discuss."

The Sunday estimate is far lower then the drops Dark Knight or current 2nd place weekend opener Spider-Man 3 had. It will be interesting to see the actuals.

Considering New Moon has basically dominated every Entertainment show, magazine cover and website for the last month I'm not sure how anyone could be surprised by this. This is the most overhyped movie of the last year.

Re: Weekend Box-office (11/20-11/22) : Eclipse of the moon
I have to wonder how big this opening could have been if these stories were written even a *little* bit better and thus maybe had a broader appeal. I think of something like Harry Potter, which has a lot of die hard fans who've read the books, but also manages to attract more casual viewers who've never picked up one of the books. Twilight is so heavily geared toward the fangirls and seems to be very polarizing to most everyone else.
