Clone Wars start?
 

I am getting into SW The Clone Wars and just bought the S.1 BR set. Just wondering if watching the Clone Wars movie or the original Clone Wars animation from 3 or so years ago is a must to be into the current story line?

I would say no on both counts. The movie was just an extended stand alone episode that isn't required viewing for the rest of the series.

You need to watch the Clone Wars movie before watching the series. It introduces a MAJOR character for the series. It also sets up a story line for later.

As for the Clone Wars episodes from years ago, those are not connected to the current series so you can skip those if you like.

I never saw the movie and was able to pick up on the series, no sweat.

Yeah. I watched the series first and then watched the movie and I don't recall any confusing parts being cleared up by watching the movie.
