This film is amazing for what it is. I appreciate that it didn't try to be overly dramatic in terms of its plot. The songs are superb, and it's just fun watching Jeff Bridges have a good time with this role. He completely nails every scene.

Caught this a couple weeks ago and like The Lovely Bones, I guess I just didn't get around to posting any thoughts. Crazy Heart, for me, felt very flat. It was just there, it was OK, there was nothing egregious about Bridges' or Gyllenhaal's performances, the music, the writing, or anything. But there was nothing special either, no really meaningful moments. A film that took no chances and therefore cannot be passionately considered from either a for- or against- perspective.
All three of Clooney, Stuhlbarg and Renner gave better performances than Bridges. But god damn if he isn't one helluva likeable guy, I can see why the Academy would go for him especially given the sentiment of his due.
