I've always been intrigued with seeing the shorter version. Anyone know if the UK Blu-ray is region locked?

Re: The Shining...cut or uncut? FIGHT!
Now I want to see this movie.
About the picture
I didn't care much for the TV series so I always assumed that the theatrical movie was probably superior to the book. After reading DVD talkers vouch for the book being much better I'm at a loss as to which to start, original movie, international cut or book.

Re: The Shining...cut or uncut? FIGHT!
You truly do learn something new everyday. I consider "The Shining" one of the best horror movies ever and yet I had never heard of a shorter cut. I might have to check it out, although like others have noted I am so used to watching the long version I am not sure how much I would enjoy something different.
I rented the mini series on DVD recently and enjoyed, if for no other reason than they used the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado as the Overlook Hotel. King was staying at the Stanley when he wrote a substantial portion of the book. I have visited the Stanley and am very familiar with that area, so it was treat being able to identify where parts of it were shot.

@DeputyDave
Book it is! My local used book shop has the silver cover w/ faceless kid. I'll probably swoop that one up.
@Sorel
Props. I'm a newbie too but never posted anything as interesting as this. I'm really looking forward to comparing all 4 versions of this story.
