As was just mentioned in the Animated Oscars thread.

I mention this every time we have one of these threads. It just gets better with age as well as maturity. When I was young it was just a fun movie with fun songs. As I got older I learned how deep the movie was.

What the big deal was with:
- The Captain tearing up that red flag.
- The sexual tension between Maria and the Captain.
- The distant then close relationship he had with his children and why.
- The jealousy of the Baronness.
- The traitor at the end.
- How difficult it must have been to give up everything and head into the hills to abandon your home and country
- How it was so difficult for him to sing Edelwise and the patriotism involved with it.

This movie just has so many layers to it. I can't think of a more perfect example of a family movie. It truly does cross all ages. How can a movie about Austria during the political turmoil of the first years of WWII also appeal to kids? Even very young kids with ADHD will sit for this long movie.

The People vs Larry FLynt

I enjoyed this film in the 90s, but seeing it again recently, it is now one of my all time favorites. It is just such a well made film. The casting was perfect, even Larry Flynt's cameo as a judge was great. Woody should have won an Oscar for his role. It is fascinating to watch his downward spiral into drugs and depression. I also laughed a lot more than when I watched it in the 90s.
