Can you dispatch a vampire with a martini and cigarette smoke?
"Mad Men" writer-producer Marti Noxon has been hired to pen DreamWorks Studios' revamp of the 1985 horror comedy "Fright Night." Before her work on AMC's "Mad Men," Noxon was a writer-producer on the bloodsucker series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," so fangs and stakes are in her blood.
Producers Michael De Luca, Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig set up the "Fright" project in May. DreamWorks executive Mark Sourian is overseeing for the studio.
The original "Fright," released in 1985, was written and directed by Tom Holland and starred Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale. Ragsdale played a teenager who discovers his neighbors are vampires.
The new version will keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the effects.
The WME-repped Noxon also has been a writer-producer on ABC's "Private Practice" and "Grey's Anatomy" and Fox's "Prison Break."

She is also a writer on the AMC series Mad Men, but I figure more people here would be familiar with her work on Buffy and Angel.
I think this will probably undergo several re-writes before it actually gets greenlighted to film.

Saying she was a writer on ANGEL is stretching it big time. She only co-wrote one episode and co-wrote the "Cordy" theme song for another (her co-writer was ANGEL co-creator David Greenwalt on both occasions). Failing to mention she was largely responsible for the lowest points of later Buffy seasons is convenient.
EDIT:
In other words, the title of this thread and the article aren't accurate.

She's somehow associated with Joss Whedon? Surely this remake will be an unparalleled masterpiece. And if it sucks or fails, it's somebody else's fault!

She was basically the showrunner for season 6 of Buffy, and wrote / co-wrote and produced a large sum of the whole series.

Goshdarnit, I liked S6, but then again, I like misery. She was also the Exec. Producer on "Point Pleasant" which I liked.

Yeah yeah, season six has its fans for whatever reason....never understand why but you're a loyal, vocal group and I respect that!

Yep, she penned pretty much everything I hated most in Buffy season 6 ... and that's a lot. Doesn't give me much hope for this one. I want her to stay far away from anything Vampire until the end of time.
That said, if this movie gets me a blu ray release of the original, it's ok by me.

I read the title wrong at first. I wondered why the woman who dubbed singing voices in all those musicals was doing a vampire movie (had her confused with Marni Nixon).

Now that Stephen Geoffreys has given up the gay porn and returned to making well, non porn movies he'll probably have a cameo.
