Kick-Ass (Vaughn, 2010) --Mark Millar's comic about "real" superheroes now a film

Ok I'm just doing this cuz the search and every method I've been taught can't find what I think was a thread that was here. Maybe it existed..or maybe I just assumed it did. Anyways...it's based on a comic by Mark Millar (he made Wanted, wrote the amazingly badass Ultimates, currently doing a great run on Fantastic 4 too) and art by John Romita Jr. (he's done Spider-Man, Daredevil, Wolverine etc etc...his run on Spidey was amazing)

The plot of Kick-Ass concerns a lonely teenage boy called Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who decides to become a real-life superhero after being inspired by the heroes of comic-books. He soon encounters a mysterious vigilante called Big-Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and his daughter Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz), who are working to bring down a drug baron.

Even if the movie sucks, the fact that it 's called Kick-Ass: The Movie automatically ranks it as one of the greatest film titles of all time.

Is this why Millar hasn't put out the next issue of Kick Ass? How can there be a movie when the comic hasn't even been completed? I wonder if this means he won't complete it.

I love the comic but it has been SLOW to come out... like what Vaughn did with Layer Cake and Stardust, so I'm really looking forward to this one.

Is Chloe Moretz the youngest actress ever to kick so much ass? Her action scenes put the young Storm Shadow/Snake Eyes fights to shame.

Millar's a self-absorbed, overrated hack writer at best, and WANTED wasn't that great. Still, the trailer looks promising.

I don't think he's the second coming of god or anything. But if you want superheroes kicking ass and cool stories of badassness, Millar is the man to go with.

SO i guess I am just gonna ask : Are they gonna be able to get away with the word "ass" in the title ?
WIll the MPAA let them? I know Mario Van Peebles had problems with this same word when he made Badassssssss! Thats why they had to have so many S's I do believe.

The MPAA is that of a different animal of a few years ago.

They've been progressing the past few years (the change of green-band trailers in the past few months is huge movement) so I don't see why they won't allow the title.

We have a film called Inglourious Basterds coming out soon. Have you heard of it?

I think the MPAA will let them if they let IB go out like that. I mean Basterds (even with the new spelling) is a much harsher word than Kick-Ass

Millar sucks but I'm a fan of Vaughn. I'll definitely check it out.

Anybody else spend the first 30 seconds thinking they were watching a remake of Condorman?

Looks like it could be fun.

Re: Kick-Ass - April 16, 2010

It's actually pretty entertaining. Goes a little over the top towards the end, but over all a good time to be had seeing this.

And for those who read the comics, in the same vain as Wanted, this one deviates from the comic story and changes a couple of things.

Spoiler:
Big Daddy actually is an ex-cop

The Hit-Girl fight scenes were the best part of the film.

Agreed.
I've been reading lots of great things about this one - but that trailer just didn't do it.

Umm this movie is not for kids. It's extremely violent and near Rated R.
