Re: Impressive Moments in Lackluster Movies

I haven't watched it in ages, but I remember the ice field sequence in Titan AE being very impressive, while the rest of the movie was kinda generic, though servicable.

Just had a funny thought, wonder what kind of movie we would have if we took all these specific scenes and made one big impressive movie?

Most likely a bunch of random clips strewn together with no real plot; something like a Michael Bay movie.

I thought the beginning of Titan A.E. where they destroy Earth was cool as well.

The fight between two "jumpers" at the end of the movie of the same name was the only redeeming thing in that horrendous p.o.s.

I know most people don't like it, but I think its a great movie. The beginning of Atlantis: the Lost Empire gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it.

I was going to mention the same thing.
I am borderline on actually getting the Blu-ray disc for that scene.
The rest of the movie is a bit of a yawn.

Re: Impressive Moments in Lackluster Movies

I think the scene in the remake of The Hitcher where
Spoiler:
Sean Bean rolls up in that car and takes out the police cars one by one with the thumping Nine Inch Nails song playing to it is awesome. Of course the movie is basically trash, but I really dig that scene.

Star Wars- Lightsaber scenes. When you think about it Lightsabers are what truly caught everyone's attention. No Lightsabers = a regular ol' Sci Fi Shoot 'em Up.

I'm surprised the opera sequence from Quantum of Solace hasn't been mentioned yet.

The scenes in Naples, Italy in Hannibal. Not that great a movie, but good cinematography in those scenes is very well done; they are the only time the movie feels like a Ridley Scott film as opposed to one where he was the hired gun director.

Yes, Superman III came to mind for me too. Even as a kid I knew the movie paled compared to the first two, but absolutely loved that scene.

Heat
Kill Bill 1 - from when Uma goes to Japan up to the last fight; rest of movie is crap
Star Trek: Generations - crash

Debatable, but here is one recent list on the Internet of the best film car chases:

http://fansided.com/2009/09/25/speed...ie-car-chases/

20 – The Wraith (1986)
19 – The Transporter (2002)
18 – Bad Boys II (2003)
17 – Duel (1971)
16 – Quantum of Solace (2008)
15 – Vanishing Point (1971)
14 – The Rock (1996)
13 – Smokey and the Bandit (1977)
12 – Death Proof (2007)
11 – The Seven-Ups (1973)
10 – The Italian Job (1969)
9 – Ronin (1998)
8 – Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
7 – The Dark Knight (2008)
6 – The French Connection (1971)
5 – To Live and Die in L.A. (1985)
4 – The Blues Brothers (1980)
3 – The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
2 – Bullitt (1968)
1 – The Road Warrior (aka Mad Max 2) (1981)

Personally, I think Bourne Identity (not a "lackluster" film) ought to be on that list somewhere.

That's half the movie! Hardly a "moment".

I'm shocked you'd be so impressed by an old guy walking through a cemetery, but to each their own!

Re: Impressive Moments in Lackluster Movies

I think the final battle sequence in Saving Private Ryan is even more compelling than the opening one. But neither can be considered mere "moments."

Yeah, the opening and closing battles comprise like 1/3 of the movie.

I would disagree, but I can see saying that 1/3 of the movie is good and the other 2/3 sucks, but you can't call 1/3 of the movie just moments.

Where did all this Saving Private Ryan hate come from? I know people were displeased with the bookends, but to call it a crap film is a crap statement.

Probably because what follows the D-Day scene up to the final battle is heavy handed, uninspired, and cliched.

My favorite part is still her in the hospital.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it crap, but "lackluster" definitely fits, I think.
