Weekend Box Office -Oct 16-18 '09- Wild weekend as Paranormal, Citizen beat Stepdad
Friday's Numbers:
I'm curious how Where The Wild Things Are will hold up. I know a lot of people that absolutely loved it, but the general masses are pretty split on it. Next weekend should be interesting. Good numbers for Law Abiding and the low budget Paranormal Activity. Couples Retreat is holding surprisingly strong for a movie so heavily maligned by critics.

That said, this film also has about 8x the budget of BJM and about 5x that of Adaptation.
He got to do something I'm sure a lot of directors strived for: make a $100m arthouse flick. Depending on how it is ultimately received, though, may decide his future projects. Oddly enough, his name and style are so well known amongst critics and, apparently, hollywood from his first two films that it may not have as big an impact as it would on other directors (a recently discussed topic).
I'd like to see him and ex-wife Sofia Coppola work on something together but yeah, the ex-wife part sort of kills that.

I didn't think LAC would be doing so well. Glad to see PA hanging onto #3. I'm sure it would have done even better if it were on at least 1000 screens. No surprise for Stepfather. Looked like more generic crap.

Great for Paranormal Activity. I hope Where The Wild Things Are meets or beats WB's expectations for the pic, as it's great.

Wild Things took a major dip at my theater last night. Looks like the weekend estimate reflects that ($32 million versus the $36 million projected after Friday's gross).
