Sony is F'n dreaming if they think this will make that kind of money. Maybe a big opening weekend I doubt even that...

I'm waiting for the reviews, but probably a rental. If it's a full dress rehearsal of the concert, that sounds like it's worth watching. If it's bits and pieces and incomplete I'll pass. There hasn't been much clear explanation of what the film is.

Just another ploy to make more money... like Michael Jackson's entire career after Thriller.

Sony bought the flick for $50 - $60m (which they've apparently already made back) so I'm assuming the company that produced it got a large chunk and the Jackson estate will get a share of it (this film was planned before Jackson's death.)

JACKSON MOVIE BOOKED INTO IMAX VENUES
Thursday, October 1, 2009

Although 3D and IMAX venues are usually booked months in advance by movie distributors, Regal Entertainment Group, the nation's largest theater chain, said Wednesday that it is making 25 of its IMAX locations available for the screening of the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It beginning October 27. In a statement, Dick Westerling, head of marking and advertising for Regal, said, "Michael Jackson's This Is It advance ticket sales are extremely popular at our theatres across the country, so we are pleased to continue this momentum by adding the film in The IMAX Experience at 25 locations."

I'm a bit interested, just because I do like a lot of MJ's songs. I might go if my friend wants to.

I'll be there at midnight opening night. Huge MJ fan.. sad that this is the closest I'll get to seeing him live but we're all really excited. I'll probably see it more than once.

Re: Michael Jackson's "Is This It": Do you care?

I've seen some scenes and although it is rehearsal footage, you do see some finished routines. I do like the "behind the scenes" where you see MJ's creative juices flowing.

I'm pretty sure I'll catch this in the theatre, but it's almost a must-have on Blu-Ray since there is nothing else MJ on the format.

This was shot on video. How grainy would it look in IMAX?

Re: Michael Jackson's "Is This It": Do you care?

I'd give it a rent out of curiosity, but I'm not hauling myself to a theatre to see it. Especially if the run is so limited. I'm a busy man.

Portions of the film were shot using the Red camera. I believe the rest of the film was shot using HD cameras, but I don't know which makes or models.

Eh, never been a fan. I might at some point watch this if it's on cable or something. I seriously doubt I would even do that, though.
