Re: Movies that Sucked, But You Went to See Theatrically due to Boredom

When I was dating in HS my girlfriend and I would go to movies a lot because we could be together, out of the house, away from parents, etc. But I will never forget that due to lack of choices at the multiplex we saw the parody film Spy Hard. I've nevers seen a film so misserably unfunny. It was fun to be together, but I remember feeling like, why the hell are we sitting here watching this?

When I was about 18 or 19, I'd go see pretty much anything that played theatrically at some point. So, stuff from 1995 and 1996 saw me watching a lot of stinkers.

Year One

Went with a friend of mine because we both had the day off from work. I've rarely seen a packed theater so quiet.

Fortunately most films I see theatrically I enjoy, even if later on I decide they weren't that great.

Armageddon. Went cause some friends wanted to go. Afterwards, one guy breathlessly proclaimed that it was the best film he'd ever seen, including his favorite: Aliens.

I had a good laugh all the way home after that comment.

Couldn't you have just ignored the movie and made out? Guess even that would get old after a while.

I am quite a bit more discerning these days, but I had a lot more free time in college, which explains quality viewings like Highlander 3, The Scarlet Letter, Bad Girls, and a host of others I couldn't possibly remember. The most recent one is probably Star Wars: Episode II.

I saw every film you mentioned theatrically, in high school and college.

Did Phantom Menace really cause you to grow so disenchanted with Star Wars that you only went and saw the second one out of boredom?

I also saw this one in theaters. My friends invited me and paid but I hated seeing it in theaters.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I go to the movies because I am interesting in seeing something, not due to boredom. Besides, I have way too many unwatched DVD's/Blu's to go to the movies and watch a film I know will be bad.

Alien vs Predator - Requiem. It didn't cost me anything, but I'm never getting that time back.

Though I almost NEVER do this, I went to see Land of the Lost with a friend this summer. Talk about your all-time big mistakes...

Try watching Spy Hard sometime. It should be called Spy Soft.

The only stinkers that I can rmember seeing int eh theater were Showgirls and Sweet November. The first I saw in high school with some buddies, and we were all thinking with our little heads, the second I went to see because I thought I was gonna get a little head afterwards.

I have been disenchanted with Star Wars since I was 9 years old (after Jedi), but I was curious about what sort of theatrical experience Episode I might be. My friends literally had to beg me to join them for Episode II, and I should have stayed home.

I went to see Bruno because I was bored. What a grating experience. I knew it would be annoying, but not that annoying.

The Happening (I even considered seeing it twice... I just couldn't believe it was really that bad...)

Hulk (the Edward Norton one...)

Re: Movies that Sucked, But You Went to See Theatrically due to Boredom

Not really bored, but more "nothing else out there to see".

In high school my friends and I would go see movies on out birthdays, and on one of our birthdays we decided to go see the movie "Assassins". We also ended up seeing "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" when it came out (mainly because the first was pretty good).

These trips weren't total busts, we did go see "Rumble in the Bronx" which led to my love of Jackie Chan movies.
