Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

So now the question is how early do the off-site parking lots open? Doesn't do me much good to get there at 3 AM if no parking lots open till 5 AM.

The one I go to by Petco Park is always open. You pay at the little kiosk. The parking is good for the day. I have parked there right after midnight. The ones that have an attendant... dunno. Maybe you could call either Ace or Five Star Parking to see if someone might know.

Over by Petco? Do you know the address on that one so I can map it? I usually park further away.

If those are the one's by Petco, they'll convert them to a flat rate during Comic-con.

take the trolley from whatever hotel you're staying at. Some hotels are having free shuttles too.

But be warned that the trolley and bus times are very random.

I'm not staying at a hotel, I'm staying with my grandparents, so I have to drive in and park.

I called, they made no mention of this. However, the parking lot behind the SDCC (lot 90) has been rented out for the entire period.

hahaha...
I can only hope the entire 45 minutes they are there, people in costumes have lightsabre battles in front of them, some fat spiderman shoots them with silly string from his web shooter, and the a battalion of the 501st show up and march around them...

It's the lot with most of the cars...bordered by Park Blvd, Imperial Ave and N 11th Ave. The large building to the right is one of the pre-paid parking garages and it's the tall building with the clock on top. Hope this helps. Oh, a couple years ago they used this lot when they were promoting Deathrace. Hope nothing like that is happening this time.

Well, I called and ACE lots don't open until 6am. What Tom has pictured, they said wasn't available. So I may have to park on the bridge if I can't find an open lot.

Well, crap. I guess they're using it for something else. I was going to check it out Wednesday before Preview Night.

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

Sony may have bought it out. They are supposed to be giving rides in Green Hornet's Black Beauty. I think they are going to set up a short track.

I'm glad I'm not going all of the days. And all this STILL doesn't make Anaheim a viable alternate, but damn if San Diego isn't trying their best.

Oh, ok. Sounds cool but, damn them for taking my favorite parking lot. I may have to rethink my strategy in getting there early in the am.

BTW, today was the last day you could pre-purchase your parking. Every space now, is up for grabs when you get there. However, the parking under the convention center has been "sold out" for a while.

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

ha ha ha. This will be a cluster fuck for parking.

Oh well. I'm only going two days this year. Got a food festival on Saturday, But I must hit up Tron's panel.

What are some of the highlights of other's planned schedule?

-Tron in Hall H
-Scott Pilgrim shirt shop across the street from con
-Running into Devilshalo randomly - it always happens.
-People yelling don't run.

Yeah, Tron is one of my highlights. The Roger Corman panel might be fun too. Scott Pilgrim panel.

Funny you mention about running into Devilshalo. Happened to me last year. We were both in the Hall H line outside but in different directions (if you've been there, you know what I mean).

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

I'm mainly going to focus on signings and exclusives this year. I've spent too many years sitting in hallways just to get into a panel that'll be put on on the web later. I can hear all the exciting news on the floor.

I'm hoping this won't be sold out by Saturday:

Rumor also has it that John Barrowman will be there signing his Torchwood comics. I know he pretty much goes every year but I've missed him each time I've gone.

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

If anything, I may see you guys on Weds to pick up my badges. Then standing in the Hall H line with Tom on Sat. Friday is a possibility, but just to walk around and to check the surrounding area for parking, not sure yet if I'm going. I don't have the energy to camp panels everyday anymore.

San Diego is really, really pricing themselves out this year. But a move to Anaheim is no better and would be a bigger nightmare.

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

For those interested, we're doing the usual Hooters thing before Preview Night. The group might be smaller than previous years, though.

I should hit downtown tomorrow around noon to check things out. I will probably just trolley in. w00t!

So, where do the gays going to the Comic-Con get to meet? "Wangs" for the men and "the Muffin Shop" for the ladies? Sorry boys, but stepping into a Hooters restaurant would probably result in me melting, or whatever happens to vampires when they aren't invited into your home.

How so? I've been so out of the loop leading up to con this year since I got on getting a badge late and having the Hyatt flip comic con the bird. It's sort of a "rebuilding year" when it comes to going to con.

But how is San Diego pricing themselves out this year? I'm interested to hear yours and other's take.

This shattered me last year as my focus was those GL figures and that was a cluster fuck. I remember the days when exclusives could actually be turned around for a profit and weren't an utter nightmare to get.

This year I'm not bothering with any of that and signings are tough to come by. My stance is that most of the exclusives just cost you precious con time that you could be enjoying otherwise.
