The CGI is pretty demanding. Remember, there are only a handful of digital studios out there doing all the work for all the movies. It's commonplace now for a major movie to farm out different aspects to different studios; ILM and Digital Domain, despite being competitors, are frequently contributors to the same film these days just to ensure completion.
As films become increasingly animated digitally, scheduling becomes increasingly important. If you can't get shot footage turned in on time, you risk being bumped for another film that can. And ultimately, that adds even more pressure to set a release date and shoot quickly than any given actor's schedule. This isn't anything new; we've seen it time and again with shooting at larger studios. Remember how in-demand the 007 Stage at Pinewood gets for the blockbuster releases? There are only so many places large enough to accommodate the increasing scale of these kinds of tentpole movies. Same goes for the digital labs that finish the work. That's not to say that artistry is not involved and films can't be deemed art. It's just that there is a very true reason why there's an adage that states something along the lines of "films are never finished but rather abandoned". |

They should include this somewhere in the movie. :D

Looking forward to this film...if it's at least 20 times better than the 2nd film, it'll be worth renting at some juncture.
Michael Bay really knows how to make money. |

Thought you guys might like to know that they were filming scenes from this movie today outside of my office. Basically, they are filming at the old Post Office building the next three days. This is where Nolan filmed the Joker robbing Gotham National Bank.
Anyway, it looked like they were filming the autobots (in car form) quickly entering some sort of SWAT or military facility. They spent a lot of time doing what looked like the same scene a bunch of different ways. There was a large "firetruck" looking thing with a big "drill" or jackhammer on the top. The numbers 316 were written on the side. I thought this looked like a decepticon but after the started shooting the action it was clear it was an autobot. Does anyone know who or what this is? When they called action... from the right the Ferrari (new autobot?) and the big truck autobot #316 noted above came flying from the right, and from the left Bumblebee (sporting a new darker metallic yellow color), Ironhide (black pickup truck), and the new Corvette (i forgot the name of this autobot but it's a newer version of the Vette) came flying in. They simultaneously arrive at the entrance to the facility where some SWAT looking soldiers open the fence with barbed wire and wave them through as they all skid their rear wheels to turn in. Then a few SWAT soldier come out of the building armed in a "defensive position". They did the same scene above a bunch of times with only the cars arriving from the right. And then the same thing with only the cars arriving from the left. Different wider angles. My bet is Bay will use these shots cause without the simultaneous arrival it seemed the stunt men were able to drive "faster". Though there was more "action" and excitement of the simultaneous arrival. So who knows. But my gut is faster arrivals from left and right, edited quickly together in post production will give it more energy and "Bay" feel. Later in the day, Optimus Prime did an arrival from the right, carrying a full 18 wheeler trailer. I missed most of this, so i only saw the last take. I don't know if any other autobots were with Optimus. When they finished, i saw the "twins" with their new paint jobs going the other way off the set. Then all of the autobots were taken off set. The crews started setting up the lights for some night shooting during the "break".

The Vette's name is Sideswipe. Here's a video of what you described (maybe some of your buddies filmed it :p) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFPr_...layer_embedded Edit: And some more from different angles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFPr_qMTOcw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPheKcDByc4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eu3j-2D9cc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwS4qxyTDlQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hicEvfnkiPU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xoMZ3XXk7U Good shot of the fire rescue: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...2_395000_n.jpg Must be Inferno |

Supposedly, the guy who made the posts is some kind of credible source, don't ask me how, but the photos might give some credence to the story. Spoiler:

Re: Transformers 3 Announced
I think he's trying to make himself look exhausted and be panting for whatever scene he's about to shoot (which probably takes place during a lull in an action sequence or just an instant after such a sequence ended).

According to pictures from Pixel Rally and Colin Hinkle via Transformers Live Action Movie Blog, Sam Witwicky (played by Shia LaBeouf) may have the power in Transformers 3. Images from the set of the film set on Wabash and Lake in Chicago show off Sam with some sort of glove. In some of the images, he is pointing the glove at something, as if something will be shot out of it. http://tformers.com/article.php?sid=14146 http://transformerslive.blogspot.com...ith-power.html |
