Recently watched the 2009 horror flick The House of the Devil for the first time, and was extremely impressed by this flick. I'm a big horror movie fan from way back, and the retro '70's/'80's tone, the storyline, and all of the actors worked perfectly. Very archetypal horror movie from that era -
In fact, if I hadn't known better, I would have thought this film was from the '70's or early '80's; the beginning with the freeze-framed images, the color, lighting, etc. were all identical to movies from this era. The film reminded me a lot of older flicks like The Last House on the Left (Wes Craven), Let's Scare Jessica to Death, The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc.
It was also a brilliant move to cast actors/actresses from '80's genre films: Mary Woronov starred in Eating Raoul & had a cameo in The Night of the Comet, Tom Noonan played the Tooth Fairy in Manhunter (based on the TH novel Red Dragon), & Dee Wallace was the mom in E.T. - she was also in one episode of the underrated '80's Twilight Zone TV series...

Since you liked The House of the Devil, you should check out :
This one is more of a throwback to 70's/80's Eurohorror

I watched it for the second time this past Halloween. Still think it's fantastic. West's best IMO.

Finally got around to this one as well (been on a horror kick lately). I loved it, although I will echo the same sentiment that a lot of people around here had: The third act doesn't have quite enough oomph to satisfy after all the build up. Still, I'd rather have less is more than more is more, because how often does someone make a horror film that takes the time to build real tension as opposed to just throwing jump scares at the audience? Really, really well done all around.

Watched this again again tonight to kick off October. Watched my Amazon exclusive VHS version which was kind of fun. Still a really good film even though it is a slow burner that sort of leaves me wanting more as it ends rather abruptly. Not a lot really happens but it's done in an entertaining and brooding way where you dread what's coming. I don't think the ending completely lives up to what a person would think is coming but it's not bad either. I like the way that West set the film in the 80s but didn't slap viewers in the face with a bunch of references to the time period but just made it feel like something that came out during that time period.

I should give my Blu-ray another spin before Halloween. I only watched it once and found it a tad overrated, but there were some genuinely shocking moments (especially what happens to Greta Gerwig's character).
BTW, Jocelin Donahue must be one of the most in demand actresses working in TV commercials. It seems like she pops up in a new ad at least once a month.

Loved the original track of "One Thing Leads to Another."
Powerman 5000 did a cover version of it.

Watched this last night for the second time. Great flick.
Anyway... I noticed, when they show the babysitter ad, there's also a lost cat ad:

It's also on sale at Best Buy this week for $8.99. It doesn't seem like it goes on sale often. It's $20+ over at Amazon.
