Subject matter is of little importance to me. If a movie has a good director, writer and an interesting cast, then why pass on it?

....so what films haven't you seen cuz of the subject matter? Even if they're supposedly pretty good. A good film is a good film to me.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

This movie is more about pulling apart and analyzing the Facebook generation than Facebook itself. The fact the FB people are pissed off about it alleviated my fears that it would be a love-letter of sorts.

I can't recall ever seeing a movie "just because" so in so starred in it, or whatshisface directed it. I don't give a shit about that stuff. I need to be interested in the subject... certainly doesn't have to be "high brow" either, ie: I love zombie movies! the cheesier the better!

Subject matter and INTEREST in the subject can seen, and to me they are, as two different things. I get what you mean though.

Man i can't believe this movie is made on this, every day i'm thinking whether to decide to delete my account or not, barely use it and don't even talk to the people on there face to face.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

Saw it, and it was okay. The start, when FB was coming together was peppy and exciting and a whole lot of fun. However, about halfway through, when Timberlake's character was introduced, it became a slog. What's weird is I didn't mind the character (my GF hated him), it's just the energy got sapped out and things just got tedious.

With that said, was definitely better than Benjamin Button, which was just boring the whole way through.

Would you sit through a three-hour extravaganza on the history of flower arranging if it had a good actor and director???

Reign of Flowers: The Art of Ikebana
Directed by John Woo. Starring Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li and several gorgeous Chinese starlets playing Japanese flower arrangers...

Yeah, I might give that version a shot.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

I thought the film was very, very good. I kind of scratched my head when I first heard about the project, and wondered why Fincher would direct a film about Facebook. I'm not going to rank it against other Fincher films, but I really liked it. And the score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is outstanding.

Day one blu-ray purchase for me.

5-track sampler of the Trent Reznor / Atticus Ross soundtrack is now available at:
http://www.nullco.com/TSN/
You can pre-order the full CD/Blu-Ray/Vinyl soundtrack now.

I opted for the Blu-ray and Vinyl.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

These early reviews at RT are beyond stellar. It sounds like Fincher has indeed knocked it out of the park.

An example...

Todd McCarthy: "On a first viewing, it seems almost indecently smart, funny and sexy. The second time around... half the time I sat there marveling at the similarities of the story, themes and structure to Citizen Kane."

Currently at 100% fresh with six ringing endorsements.

I can't wait for Armond White's review. I'm going out on a limb here but I don't think he's going to like it.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

Not going to elaborate much lest I break my embargo, but, although I'm not a real Oscar expert I think Eisenberg might deserve a nod.

The real Mark Zuckerberg was at my screening. I walked out of the theater and there he was on the sidewalk taking a photo with some girl. If I hadn't just seen the movie, I might've been faster on my reflexes and asked him a question but my mind was too blown.

Definitely agreed on the Oscar nod for Eisenberg. He knocked it out of the park. Just a great great movie all around.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

To those of you who have seen it, how Aaron Sorkin-ish is it?

Can't say I'm psyched for it, but I do love me some Sorkin.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

I can't speak too much because I've only seen bits and pieces of The West Wing and Studio 60, but the writing is absolutely amazing and from what I know of him, very much in his usual style. Right off the bat, the very first scene of the movie is rapid fire dialogue back and forth, but with a slowly building crescendo and a great conclusion.
It sets the tone for the rest of the movie's dialogue exchanges.

I heard that as well, but apparently other people saw him at the screening as well. /film said he was wearing a suit, which seems odd.
