Ugh. Looks horrendous. I think the first one is ok, but it is VASTLY overrated. Plus, the addition of the cardboard Julie Benz doesn't help matters.

Pass.

It looks like direct-to-DvD? I would think that this would get killed real quick at the box office.

IIRC, the budget is actually a few million more than the original. I think I've heard the estimate of $8-10 million being thrown around whereas the first cost only $6 million.

The film will get a theatrical release, but how big it will be is the question that hasn't been answered yet. I honestly can't see this getting anything more than a platform release. I can see a few hundred screens, but nothing past a thousand unless Sony takes a gamble with it. I can see this preforming decently in theaters, but I don't see it making more than $15-20 million. It'll make more than enough once it hits DVD and Blu.

And fuck the haters. I watched the original on Blu-ray a few weeks ago and it still holds up. Count me in as one of those who will see it opening weekend.

I thought this project was killed a while back. I'm glad it will see the light of day, and since my podunk town probably won't get a theatrical release, I'll blind buy it on dvd.

In the scene when he says "are you ready for this shit, little brother?" he looks kinda like Alan Rickman.

Oh and thanks to that bit of dialogue, we now know which MacManus brother has the bigger cock.

I always found that scene hilarious. Particularly the slo-mo on his lips after he shoots the guy with whom he was making out.

Re: Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day (Duffy, 10/30/09)

That scene really really was a wtf for me. I mean it wasn't all that great to begin with, cuz I mean.it's a small ass budget film, but..the writing was weak. The acting was ok I guess. I hated the Russians they were just so soo sooo bad at acting. The scene that is probably the highlight for me is when the brothers shootout with the bearded assassin as told by Dafoe was pretty cool. I thought the film was ok for what it was. A bit too far fetched for it's own good, very cliche and not very well done at making an homage at what it's trying to make an homage to.

Re: Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day (Duffy, 10/30/09)

Ah, yes, the shootout with Il Duce (who later turned out to be their dad) was awesome. I liked it a lot but I didn't take it the least bit seriously nor did I think it was the best thing since sliced bread. It was just an enjoyable 100 minutes of silliness and ocasional mayhem. The sequel looks like more of the same but better (if that makes any sense) so I'm looking forward to it.

The reason I love the first movie so much is that, despite its apparenty air of seriousness, it never feels like your meant to take it seriously.

Re: Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day (Duffy, 10/30/09)

Opens next Friday on 70 screens, similar to last week's Black Dynamite.

Fuck you Sony. Two of my most anticipated films of the year and I can't even see them in my city. I'm just grateful that I'll be in Los Angeles that very weekend.

Can't we just start implementing Eventful like Paramount did for Paranormal Activity in regards to movies that don't have the marketing budget to get a full wide release?

well if fans of the original show up in numbers and give it a good opening box office, maybe sony/whoever's releasing it will open it wider

I'm sure they will, but a majority of the film's theaters are all on the east coast. The only theaters out west playing the film are located in Southern California. Good for me (I guess), but this is a film with a cult audience spread across the country.

If Paramount can use Eventful to see where people want Paranormal Activity and Universal based preview screenings of Serenity based off the top markets that watched Firefly, Sony could've had some sense and done something similar. I'm sure the statistics exist in which where the most people saw The Boondock Saints one-night theatrical re-release or where most people bought the DVD.

Why on earth would they open it at the Magic Johnson in LA? I'll have to catch this at the Arclight.

I FINALLY just got around to watching the original. So mad at myself for not checking it out sooner. One of the best films I've seen in a while! Just hope the sequel can capture even half of the energy of the first one.

Yes quite an interesting limited release. Unfortunate for me.
