I’m a Michael Bay fan (that’s not a joke), so I’m disappointed in this director news.
Though I wish Bay would stop doing the Transformer movies and do other projects. I enjoyed “13 Hours”

I'm still trying to figure out why there's problems with the Sony TV show and rights when Sony did the films.
This is all on Rothman. It'll be his fault if it goes to shit. He's been pushing for 3 & 4 since he was sniffing control over the entire film division. You know, when his shitty TriStar releases earned zilch.

Sony has given an Oct. 18, 2019, release date to the Mr. Rogers drama “You Are My Friend,” with Tom Hanks attached, and set “Bad Boys for Life” to open on Jan. 17, 2020.
“Bad Boys for Life” is the third film in the action comedy franchise, with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith as detectives in the Miami Police Department, Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey. The filmmaking team of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah is expected to direct “Bad Boys For Life,” with Jerry Bruckheimer back as producer.
The original “Bad Boys” grossed $144 million in worldwide box office and was the first major feature film hit for both Lawrence and Smith. 2003’s “Bad Boys II” generated $273 million worldwide. “Bad Boys for Life” will open during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

I can't believe the spinoff (which stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba) isn't called Bad Girls. For shame!
Ernie Hudson is playing Union's dad, which makes him Martin's dad as well. Wonder if any of them will pop up in this film? And Union's character is going to LA to get a "fresh start", so I guess Martin and Will don't end up as brothers-in-law.

Sony Pictures is close to greenlighting “Bad Boys For Life,” Variety has learned.
Reuniting Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as two of Miami PD’s most infamous officers has taken years to pull off, but a new draft of a script appears to have met with the producers’ approval and it looks as though production on the sequel could begin in early 2019. The plan is for the third “Bad Boys” to be in theaters by Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in 2020. Smith is on board to reprise his role as Detective Mike Lowrey. Lawrence has yet to come to terms, but the comic continues to circle the project.
Sony declined to comment on specifics related to negotiations or even address the possibility that the cameras will soon be rolling on another installment in the series. However, in an earlier interview the studio did speak to Variety more broadly about its vision for several key franchises.
“If we’re going to make another ‘Bad Boys’ after 15 years, it’s got to be next-level great,” said Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch.
Panitch’s team is keeping the details under wraps, but the studio believes that screenwriter Chris Bremner (“The Wedding Ringer”) has delivered the right mixture of action set pieces and laughs. Bremner is the latest writer to take a crack at the film — David Guggenheim and Joe Carnahan have also made attempts, with Carnahan on board to direct at one point. He’s now handed those duties off to Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who are best known for directing episodes of FX’s “Snowfall.” Michael Bay previously oversaw the Bad Boys franchise, but Panitch thinks the new team is the right fit.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are on hand to direct the sequel from a script by Peter Craig (“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay,” “Transformers”) with Joe Carnahan also doing a rewrite. Chris Bremmer is the current writer.
Jerry Bruckheimer returns as producer. Doug Belgrad will also produce, as will Smith. Barry Waldman, Mike Stenson, Chad Oman, and James Lassiter are executive producers.
Hudgens, Ludwig, and Melton play a modern, highly specialized police unit that collides with the old school Bad Boys (Smith and Lawrence) when a new threat emerges in Miami. The pic will go before cameras next month and is slated for theatrical release Jan. 17, 2020.
Joe Pantoliano is on board to return as Captain Howard.
Sources tell Variety that Smith and Lawrence had been doing chemistry tests with talent for four new roles with Ludwig, Hudgens, and Melton coming out on top. A villain role is still being sorted out.
After breaking out as the villain Cato in “The Hunger Games,” Ludwig has been a rising star with roles in “Lone Survivor” and “Grown Ups 2.” Following the show’s impressive first season, Ludwig would go on to join the cast of History Channel’s “Vikings” and is currently one of the leads of the series, which is currently in its sixth season.
Hudgens has been busy as of late, most recently starring in the Netflix film “The Princess Switch,” and can be seen next in the comedy “Second Act” opposite Jennifer Lopez. In 2019, she can be seen in the Netflix thriller “Polar” and also has the next Fox live event, “Rent: Live,” which premieres on Jan. 27.
Melton can currently be seen as Reggie on CW’s “Riverdale” and previously appeared in “American Horror Story” and “Glee.” He can be seen next in Warner Bros. and MGM’s “The Sun Is Also A Star” opposite Yara Shahidi.
