“Bad Boys 3” is set for Feb. 17, 2017, with “Bad Boys 4” slated to bow July 3, 2019. The first two pics starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, though it’s unknown whether those two actors are on board for the next two movies.
Make sure to lock in those dates before the actors are even committed

That article is from over a year ago. They are signed up for the 2 movies.

But the point still stands, correct? They were locking in dates without commitments from the actors?

That's the standard MO nowadays. Look at DC and Marvel locking down dates for "Unknown" titles. Worse that can happen for these studios is a project can be "pushed back".

Joe Carnahan has dropped out of so many movies in recent years. Shame as he is a great director. I am actually glad he is not taking this on as it's a movie series I don't care for at all.

Just in time for Will Smith's 60th birthday.

Could care less at this point. One of the almost franchises that could benefit from a reboot.

According to Deadline, the date for Bad Boys 3 is "unset". In addition, Nov 19, 2018 is a Monday...

Meanwhile, Bad Boys 3 is now unset, its previous date being Nov. 9, 2018. We hear the script is still being worked on and that Will Smith is still interested.

People rather have a 3rd than a reboot they won't care for. I doubt it would match the crazy fun caliber of the first two.

The first two had a magic about them, that is why many fans want the 3rd one to happen.

It's hard to find a great comedian that would take the role of Martin Lawrence. Not many of that caliber in movies today. Except that other small fella Kevin Hart which he's kinda funny but meh.

I've always meant to but somehow I've never seen the two films. They sound like some of Bay's more enjoyable output.

Bad Boys is fantastic. Bad Boys II is a shitshow along the lines of Transformers.

As much as I like Bad Boys II and want to disagree, you're kinda right. But you have to admit the action was fucking good lol And that rat fuck scene was hilarious.

It's funny how wild Bad Boys II turned out to be, way way disconnected from the first. The first was much more grounded. Still Bad Boys II is fun to watch. The highway scene was also intense.

Bad Boys got one of the coolest intro's I ever seen:

This was a time when Martin Lawrence was as his peak in comedy and it showed in this movie.

You have to remember that it was completely fresh at the time too. The procedural nature of it was typical. But all the visceral Bayhem action, the score, the comedy, the hot actors, Miami, the rhythm, the pacing. Top Gun (for which is shares a similar rhythm) was less than 10 years old. Bad Boys fucking rocks.

Well it rocked back then. Will the magic still be there now? I'm honestly not sure. We could end up with another Beverly Hills Cop 3.

If it's anything like number II but more mayhem along with slo-motion, then the magic is gone lol

Can't Lie........I LOVE Bad Boys II. The closest we'll ever get to 80's action movies.

Same here. Hollywood doesn't really make those movies anymore. There were many duds in the 90's, so they moved away from them. And now, it's hard to fib law enforcement, because audiences have gotten so familiar with all the procedurals out there. The stuff they do in Bad Boys and Bad Boys II is like a made up cop fever dream.

The Fast and Furious movies got close, but were still doing their own thing.

Another problem with Bad Boys 3, is that only Michael Bay's team can seem to make a Michael Bay movie. For instance, Peter Berg tried to ape Michael Bay when he made Battleship. But it doesn't reach those heights. I know a lot of his team copied over to the TMNT movies, and you could see it. Still not the same thing.

On the subject of Michael Bay - I'd love to see him find a script and make another killer movie like The Rock. I don't like to live in the past or anything. Times change. But ... I just remember the feelings during that movie were amazing. I don't recall the last time I watched a movie and felt that much fun. That movie was a real experience.
