So what that says to me is, "the deal making on that film got to be prohibitively expensive with all the talent and producer back ends, to the point it was becoming impossible for the studio to make money" on MiB, is exactly what they're willing to expend for BB3? Good job, Sony. Makes the all hands meeting we had today that much more full of shit.

It's never stopped Bay before. Hell, not having a finished script has never stopped him before.

Bad Boys II was made a decade ago?! Damn, time flies.

I'll watch Bad Boys III if the running time is somewhere under 2 hours. Bay needs to really learn how to edit his films to a watchable running time. No goofy action film should run longer than 2 and a half hours. Bay's longer movies start to become a huge chore after about the 2 hour mark. He's not David Lean and he needs to realize every movie he makes does not need to be a 3 hour epic.

Not that I have any interest in another Bad Boys movie (the first one was a shade above mediocre, the second a steaming pile of shit) but without Michael Bay directing what exactly would be the point?

A movie like Bad Boys should be no longer than 110-115 minutes tops. I loved the chemistry between Smith and Lawrence, but Part 2 was too God damned long.

I'm surprised that Part 2 isn't on Blu-Ray, but 1 is.

BTW, what happened to Theresa Randle, who played Lawrence's wife in the 2 movies? She hasn't really worked much at all and her last project was over 3 years ago.

It's a chronic problem with Bay. He does at least have the decency to recognize that his movies are nothing besides disposable junk, but he has a major tendency to overstay his welcome.

re: Bad Boys For Life -- Aw hell yes it's happening... (2020, D: El Arbi, Fallah)

I just watched Bad Boys II again the other night. I hadn't seen it start to finish since it first came out and hated it then. And this is from a big fan of the first one.

Aside from the always mentioned "it's too long" and the fact that I think Will Smith's character is too different from the first movie (he's WAY more of an asshole), I found it more entertaining than I had remembered.

If it could be toned down in a few ways (for example the first movie was funny without being over the top...the second pushed the humor too hard), I'd be up for revisiting it.

What made 1 work for me the most was the relationship & friendship between Lowery and Burnett. It was a little more grounded as opposed to the over the top aspect of 2.

If 3 gets made, I hope they keep it more grounded and have Lowery and Burnett fighting crime in Miami without any majorly over the top villains, it could work.

Here's the question, would Lowery and Burnett realistically still be detectives over 20 years after the 1st movie?

At what point is this basically Lethal Weapon and both Lowery and Burnett are "too old for this shit?"

They're only 45/48. Richard Belzer played Detective Munch on t.v. until he was almost 70.

re: Bad Boys For Life -- Aw hell yes it's happening... (2020, D: El Arbi, Fallah)

When asked if BAD BOYS 3 will happen on Conan last night, Martin Lawrence said he just recently talked to Jerry Bruckheimer about it, and says things are looking good for project.

I believe so. Yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said its real, they’re working on the script, they’re getting close and it all looks good.
Last we knew, SAFE HOUSE scribe David Guggenheim was writing the script for BAD BOYS 3, and earlier this year Jerry Bruckheimer said bad timing was the reason why it has happened yet. Bruckheimer also sounded pretty confident about it actually happening with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, but we haven't heard too much from Smith about another movie. I do wonder if Will Smith is interested in doing it, or if people are just assuming he'll definitely return for a third film.

And what about Michael Bay? He might have the time for it if he doesn't end up directing TRANSFORMERS 5, and while Bay probably does want to come back for another movie, he could always pass off the directing duties to someone else if he thinks he's going to be too busy. A Michael Bay-less BAD BOYS 3 might work, but I think people's interest in another movie will drop significantly if Will Smith doesn't return.

Loved the first one because it was actually funny. Second one was just a bunch of cars flipping over and exploding. Have no desire to see the 3rd.

That's good news for Lawrence; Partners certainly won't be long running gig for him. I enjoyed both of the first two. The 2nd was a mindless action movie but still had some laughs.

Didn't care for the first one but worship part 2 so as long as they can get Bay back, I'll be there.

definitely my favorite part of BB 2 was when the bad guy said "Rats are eating my money, this is a stupid fucking problem to have!"

Predicted running time= 169 minutes (if Bay directs)

I loved the 1st movie because it was a relatively small scale Miami Cop thriller with some humor. The 2nd one I liked, but not as much. 1st, they took too long to release it, and second it was way too bloated.

I'd be down to seeing what Lowrey and Burnett are doing nowadays. Hell, Theresa Randle needs the paycheck. She hasn't worked in years.

BBIII reminds me of Heroes. Part one was so good that the franchise is still riding on the hopes & potential that one day we'll get a good sequel.

Eh, why not. Never cared for Carnahan, but I can't take any more of Bay's ADD directing style. Not that Carnahan's is much better.

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/new...r-joe-carnahan

It was the action franchise that first made a name for Michael Bay, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, and now it’s being reported by the trades that two of the three might reunite with Sony Pictures wanting to revive the long-in-development Bad Boys 3 with Joe Carnahan in talks to do rewrites and direct an existing script by David Guggenheim.

Of course, Sony hopes that Smith and Lawrence will return and are trying to fast track the project to be the next movie for Smith to shoot after he’s finished with Warner Bros’ Suicide Squad.

The original Bad Boys was released in 1995 and it grossed a relatively tame $65 million, but by the time Smith and Bay returned with Bad Boys II in 2003, they both were big enough names for a $46.5 million domestic opening (not bad for an R-rated film at that time) and a worldwide gross of $273 million.

Although Carnahan doesn’t have a deal in place as of yet, his kinetic action films like Smokin’ Aces and The A-Team show that he’s capable of following in Michael Bay’s footsteps to take over the franchise. Carnahan’s most recent release, the Blumhouse-produced action flick Stretch starring Patrick Wilson never received a theatrical release, but that was following the Liam Neeson survival thriller The Grey, which was quite successful.

Presumably Jerry Bruckheimer is still involved as a producer although he’s not specifically mentioned in any of the stories about the revival of this franchise.
