(Won't a DANCES WITH WOLVES vs. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE re-match result in yet another tie?)
Clearly a losing battle, but I got the chance here to vote against two of my least favorite movies, not just of the '90s but of all time--SHAWSHANK and L.A. CONFIDENTIAL.

Ronin -- "Shawshank" is the most overrated movie of all time
*abstain* -- really enjoy GPB, never seen Gattaca
Beauty and the Beast -- classic Disney, Braveheart is simplistic and lunkheaded (enjoyable lunkheadedness, but still lunkheaded)
Mallrats -- "Leon" is OK, but mostly boring
LA Confidential -- a modern masterpiece
Out Of Sight -- the best of the 90s Elmore Leonard films, and a perfect symbiosis of entertainment meets crackerjack filmmaking
Office Space
Rushmore -- one of the best comedies of the 90s. "Last Seduction" is an overbaked, undercooked noir-wannabe
Mission Impossible -- not a fan of that particular Cruise/de Palma movie, but it's Citizen Kane compared to the overrated shitstain of PC garbage known as "Dances With Wolves"

Braveheart
Leon
LA Confidential
Out of Sight (the only difficult choice for me)
Edward Scissorhands
Rushmore (top ten of the 90s for me)

The Shawshanks Redemption (easily)
Matchup #2 (abstain. both are ok but neither wins my vote out of not really caring either way.)
Braveheart (Duh! nuff said )
Leon: The Professional
Carlito's Way (kinda hard pick but had to go with this one.)
From Dusk Till Dawn
Edward Scissorhands
Rushmore
Dances With Wolves

Sadly, I believe that Carlito's Way will have no chance due people who have never seen it voting for LAC.

Re: Favorite Movie of the 90's: Round of 128/Group #7
Matchup #1
The Shawshanks Redemption vs Ronin- Easy. I've seen both movies once, in the theatre, years ago. Just thinking about certain moments of Shawshank gives me the chills, and I don't remember a thing about Ronin except being thoroughly confused.
Matchup #2
Grosse Pointe Blank vs Gattaca- I enjoyed Grosse Point Bland [edit- wow, is that a Freudian typo? I swear it was unintentional, but I'll leave it for entertainment purposes], but Gattaca wins because I'm drawn to rewatch it once every couple years. Gattaca loses points with me because I think the luddite agenda is kind of battered over the audience's head and I think it's fears about genetic science is way overblown. But a beautiful and unique film, nonetheless.
Matchup #3
Braveheart vs Beauty and the Beast-
My apologies. I have to admit I haven't watched B + the B all the way through, but it is extremely rare for a cartoon to move me very much and I fucking loved Braveheart so I had to throw it a bone.
Matchup #4
Leon: The Professional vs Mallrats- No contest.
Matchup #5
LA Confidential vs Carlito's Way- Just a better movie. I enjoyed Carlito's Way, but it still kind of feels amateur. Not a De Palma fan.
Matchup #6
Out of Sight vs From Dusk Till Dawn- Once again, apologies. I haven't seen From Dusk Till Dawn (but have been meaning to lately), but an early script by Tarantino has to be a winner. Out of Sight was fun, but not real memorable. I'm also still kind of pissed at Soderberg for that Che nonsense.
Matchup #7
Office Space vs Edward Scissorhands- This was tough. I like E.S. a lot and am a fan of Burton's. But O.S. is just one of those I can watch over and over and never get tired of. So funny.
Matchup #8
Rushmore vs The Last Seduction- While I feel that Wes Anderson is approaching M. Night levels of crash and burn as far as the quality of his movies go, Rushmore (along with Tenenbaums) was his peak for me. I saw Last Sed. once and found it kind of boring.
Matchup #9: Re-Run from previous group due to a tie.
Dances With Wolves vs Mission: Impossible- Costner aint the most charismatic mofo, but it's a better movie.

Re: Favorite Movie of the 90's: Round of 128/Group #7
In that it has been and continues to be the #1 ranked film on the IMDB top 250, Shawshank is most assuredly overrated. It is a very good film, however. Nix that last scene (the sappy and unnecesary beach epilogue) and the supersaturation of the film on basic cable for the past 10 years and I think it would inspire less bitterness.
That being said, Ronin, for all its merits, is a film with its own share of serious flaws. I don't think an injustice will have occurred when Shawshank wins the matchup handily.

Ronin - sorry Shawshank, you can afford one less vote.
Gattaca - very very easy
Braveheart - sorry chris_sc77, I know it will break your heart.
Leon - not even close
LA Confidential - I like Carlito but it can't compare.
From Dusk Till Dawn - by a nose.
Office Space - toughest matchup this round
Last Seduction - neither one is great but Linda Fiorentino was hotttt.
Mission Impossible - meh, Dances was a bore.

The Shawshanks Redemption - Ronin could've been a classic but somehow i felt never lived up to the potential. Shawshank maxed out on it's potential.
Gattaca - Both films are enjoyable in their own right but I'm going with Gattaca since i have ownership of this on Blu-ray and don't currently own GPB in any format.
Beauty and the Beast - Never too crazy on Braveheart.
Mallrats - My favorite K. Smith film. Leon is too mean-spirited for me to ever like or enjoy.
Carlito's Way - It's the battle of New York vs. Los Angeles, i'm going NY on this one.
From Dusk Till Dawn - Out of Sight was boring to me.
Office Space - Classic 90s comedy, Scissorhand was just mildly amusing.
Rushmore - another 90s classic comedy albeit not in a laff out loud way.
Mission: Impossible - looks like a tiebreaker rematch and again i'm sticking with MI.

Re: Favorite Movie of the 90's: Round of 128/Group #7
N/A (Haven't seen either, and in the case of "Shawshank Redemption", I don't ever want to see it. I hate manipulative tear-jerkers for the most part, and this movie looks like the epitome of that).
Grosse Pointe Blank
Don't like either one (though I dislike Braveheart far more)
Don't like either one
N/A (Never seen Carlito's Way)
Out of Sight
Office Space (By a fucking mile)
Rushmore
Don't like either one
It's amazing how many films in this poll I despise. It's truly a terrible list of films.
